NRL boss David Gallop has announced Melbourne Storm will be stripped of the 2007 and 2009 Premierships, the Minor Premierships of 2006-8 and of its 2010 competition points after confirming a series of salary cap breaches amounting to at least $1.7million over five years.

While I know this may get put in the "other" forum, it will be interesting to see the fallout and how it plays out with Brian Waldron, the Storm CEO while this was happening and new Rebels CEO.

Melbourne Storm Who?

They've stripped of their last two titles and if I read this right they can't score any points this season. It is basically as if they haven't existed for four years (this year included).

Gallop said:
The elaborate lengths that they went to hide the payments was quite extraordinary. These payments have allowed them to recruit and retain some of the best players in the game. There's no alternative for the NRL in terms of penalty.

Obviously they will be forced to play out the season but what is the point of turning up.

but this isn't rugby.... :lmao:

perhaps this may have greater influences than we think, just imagine, a melbourne without rugby league, what a beautiful day that would be...

This could very well be relevant to Australian rugby, look at this:

News Limited chairman John Hartigan, the Storm's owners, said "at this early stage" the architect of the elaborate payment system was former CEO Brian Waldron, now the boss of incoming Super 15 rugby team Melbourne Rebels

What will the repercussions of this be for him, if any?

Interesting that the article has tried to foist all the blame on to Brian Waldron (who is now with the Rebels which the author makes quite clear). He wouldn't have done it alone and the board and owners would have to have known about it.

i say sack Waldrom now, undoubtedly he would have had indepth knowledge of these events, cut ties with him now and save face later on. There are potential criminal charges to come out of this whole ordeal.

the mungo chat forums have gone into absolute melt down!

Someone should offer Inglis a S14 contact post haste.

I'd prefer Slater to Inglis.

This is big news down here as you'd expect. If Waldren was the architect behind this, as it seems, then he can't be CEO of the Rebels surely...

the Rebels are allowed third party money, if waldren can attract this on the down low, then surely in the open he can do wonders

This is fantastic! I do think however we should cut ties with Waldrom ASAP, but sign Inglis ASAP, and rumours are Foloau wants to go to Melbourne, I say we approach him as well.

What law has he broken? He has just broken the rules of a sporting competition and the Storm will bear the brunt of that. In rugby the only rule is that clubs can't directly act as brokers between player agents and third parties (as far as I am aware). The league media are going to pin all the blame on him and try to stir up a lynch mob to go after him. So Manly and Parramatta are now credited with "winning" the '07 and '09 premierships? My mate is a Parra fan so he will be happy.

Get Inglis, because he would be an awesome 12 or 13 with a few years, and Cooper Cronk, because he HAS been a awesome union juniour, quick smart!!!

Waldron is gone! His promise to not pinch Storm players goes with him!
