I'm not really familiar with many of the WA players. Anyone to keep an eye on?

Some of the Under 20s players are worth a look: 12 Burton and 14 Lacey. Burton has already played Super Rugby but is not well-known. Reserve hooker Scoble has promise too.

Lacey would be my pick of the Under 20s - he's a rangy lad who has rugby smarts.

The fellow that surprised me though was 10. Leyds the week before last; he was terrific, but was less noticeable at fullback in the last game.

He looks handy in the 10 jersey.

I really fear that Rising are going to put on triple figures tonight. I'm not concerned about the high amount of Super Rugby players they have as much as I'm concerned that the other team with just as many, Perth, are keeping their Super Rugby players from the comp and saying it's due to travel fatigue. It reminds me of when Foley played a B team against the Lions last year. Is this another demonstration by them? The us verse them attitude? They've already lost two home games and now have a TV game against the leading team that they obviously couldn't care less about winning. I'd be a bit angry if I were from Foxtel who are paying for the coverage of a game that will look more like cricket tonight.

It defeats the purpose of the competition to rest Super Rugby players, unless they are approaching burn out.

What benefit do the fringe players at the Rising like Sexton, PAE, Ah Nau, Jeffries, Timani, Debreczini, etc. get by playing against club players?

You will always get injuries like Brisbane had with a lot of players but that should be when there is no other choice.

I think a lot of you don't really understand the amount of travel some of the force super rugby players have done in the last few years.

the force are the most travelled sporting team in the world. this year not only did we travel east 4 times for all of the Derbies but we also has 2 trips to NZ and 2 weeks in sa.

I get that people are saying it devalues the comp but really these blokes have clocked up a tone of air miles and if the trainers and docs are saying then need a rest then I'm happy for them no to travel.

It's not like the b team has been in uncompetitive they beat the Viking for god sake and where in front until late against the rams (which we again had to travel to even though it was out home game).

At the same time as ppl bagging the spirit for not playing the super rugby players we have people bagging Melbourne for playing to many and not looking at the local players go figure.

Your damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Rising have actually brought an excellent attitude toward this competition, they want to win it! but the Spirit seem bent on using it to the detriment of the TV product that will be on display. It could have been a cracking game, close to Super Rugby level, in the first week that it won't be competing against an NRL game (no idea about AFL). If the Force players need less travel let them play for their Sydney teams and stay on the East coast.

They have travelled a lot.. but it's travelling not playing and business class. Force season finished over 2 months ago not sure how there's still a hangover.
Agreed and I'm no sports scientist but I guess that another 5 plus trips east after what they have had this year may affect their preseason so they are taking a conservative approach to the players well being.

Maybe we should have this discussion tomorrow after the game........like I said the club players have been more than competitive taking care of a team stacked with as many super rugby players as they will face tonight.

Also the force players don't have Sydney teams...........

Yeah you guys need to harden up Gaffa. Not like they're running the Nullabor to every game!

The spread is 23.5 points. I think the Rising can cover that based on their last start.

I think the Spirit will be better than people are giving them credit for. I doubt we'll see a 50+ point flogging like Brisbane City received.

Well the Rams are desperate for a good THP and what's Tetera Faulkner doing. @Gaffa you say there aren't Force players with Sydney teams but that's only since the Force forebode it. Faulkner used to play for Southern Districts and would be mighty handy. Wykes and Coleman also have a previous connection with Eastwood. What are they doing this week? With Walton there surely one could be spared.

Jagman that's like saying the Waratahs forbid Jono Lance playing for UQ and the Reds forbid Dave McDuling playing for Sydney Uni.

Wykes and Faulkner played a couple of weeks ago. Coleman is injured.

The Force kept their 16 Super Rugby players as they're entitled to do.

Arguably their worst performance was when they played most of their Super Rugby players. They should probably be 3 from 3 now but blew the game against Brisbane City and got run down by the Rams.

Yeah... struggling to follow that. So saying that a player can not return to their Sydney club, of which they are likely members is the same as saying a player can't go to a club they don't belong to or haven't belonged to or have any affiliation with?

Edit: sorry didn't follow where those guys are from. Why can't Lance play for Brisbane city though? Don't think the Waratah's would stop him.

That's the clubs those players came from.

But you know what, yest it is the same thing. Why should an amateur club retain rights over professional athletes that supersede the rights of the employer to their services?

Yeah sorry didn't follow those players. Got nothing against Super Rugby teams keeping their players from returning to club land just saying they used to when it wasn't forbidden. The NRC is a different story when some Super Rugby players aren't being used and some teams could desperately use them. The comp should be played at the highest level available no?

If part of the Western Force's plan for 2015 is that they limit the travel of some of their players then that seems perfectly reasonable.

It's not ideal but it's hardly unexpected.

The Super Rugby players are part of their squad and will be training (if healthy) even if they're not selected each week.

Plenty of the other teams are limiting the involvement of Super Rugby players as well.
