Jonah Placid's got some serious explosiveness. That right foot step to set up the try is on par with the best of Quade Cooper.
He is a marvelous attacking player but he can make bad decisions as young players do. Sometimes he plays some crackpot rugby.
We all saw him have an unhappy game for the Reds rushing out of the line.
Later he withheld a pass to his winger against England in the Under 20s when a try looked probable and just as probably denied Aus a bonus point and progression to the finals, when he was tackled with the ball.
And in an earlier NRC game he could have grounded the ball in his in-goal for 22 drop-out and instead he ran the ball out and kicked poorly - and if I remember correctly, the other team scored.
All players make mistakes and young players have to back themselves, but it was the unexpected nature of these goofs that made one pause.
Good coaching should get that nuttiness out of his play and it looks like he is in good hands.
But give him some space and a poorly configured tackle line and he will cut you to ribbons.
