How would Elsom resignation as Captain relate to the future of Rugby in this country? It'd be unfortunate and poor in timing but it won't really affect the games future. I'm going with something about 7s. Hopefully a national rollout of a development program.

I wish so, but don't think it can happen till after next year's Olympics for that to happen when funding from the AOC comes through for the four year plan for the 2016 Olympics...

Methinks, it's a major sponsorship announcement...

Unless the ARU media office is staffed by work experience kids, the coming announcement is very obviously not about Rocky, Dingo, the Wallabies, Test rugby or the RWC.

The notice says it's "regarding the future of Rugby in Australia." Important as the Wallabies are, they don't equate to the future of Rugby even in JO'N's eyes. If the announcement were Wallaby-related then the guff would say "regarding the Qantas Wallabies".

Dingo and Rocky will be along to add a little, ahem, Wallaby glamour to the occasion. It makes me think there's some sort of Wallaby-branded schools or juniors development program coming down the pipe.

It's about Sydney's ANZ Stadium getting the Bledisloe hosting rights every year for ten years after the new Liberal NSW government has given them a truckload of cash.

Maybe now that melbourne is established it could be a new arc. Or it will be a comp that doesn't include a perth based team. Like the one with the brumbie runners and co. Fuck heads.

Go the force!!!!

would assume a re-sigining of either Deans, or Rocky.

Rocky being permanently injured might mean a stepping down/retirement/going north re: Wallabies.

Being at SFS probably doesnt mean a lot. Tahs vs Rebels is there next Sat, maybe something to do with intra-club trades, and thus perhaps salary cap.

Lets hope it is positive, and possibly grassroots news!

Come on people, why is the ARU making this announcement away from their St Leonards HQ at ANZ and what was written in the Sydney papers this weekend about the Bledisloe going to Homebush for ten years due to a state government grant....

It does seem odd that its at ANZ Stadium, isn't it usually at ARU headquarters. Maybe it has something to do with next years Tri Nations with Argentina involved? Or maybe the release of fixtures for the British and Irish Lions test series in 2 years time? Or is that a little premature?

But maybe we're just thinking too much into it, and its simply Deans re-signing until the Lions.

Your theory sounds better than any other in this thread, except (1) ANZ Stadium isn't in Homebush, and (2) it doesn't gel with the wording of the media alert: "the future of Rugby in Australia"... it's just the future of Test rugby in Sydney.

But if it's not that, why announce at ANZ Stadium? It's still Easter Show time around there. Nothing else is going on at the Stadium that day. Curious.

Rocky not touring with the Brumbies to SA is week old news...

I doubt a player stepping down or retiring would be done in this manner...

The wording of the press release doesn't point toward that for me...

I'd say it's the announcement of some kind of deal...

Maybe Rocky finally received his invitation to the royal wedding and they want to make sure everyone knows about it..

They cannot access the funding until after London but that wouldn't stop them from actually developing a plan to use it. If they had a comprehensive plan to announce regarding this I'd be happy. Either that or their attempting another run at the ARC.

The ten year Bledisloe idea could have some merit, maybe.

Another possibility is ARU HQ moving out to Homebush but I can't see why Rocky needs to be there for that one or why they would want to move there.

$20 says its just formalising the details of the salary cap to the public and maybe something in regards to the academy system

Sponsorship of the 7's team through to the Olympics, Deans re-signs and a national club competition/another domestic tier with major sponsor being jetstar/qantas being announced
