I think we need a combination of the two, Groucho. We can be proud of our achievements, but we should always be expecting our players to go onwards and upwards.

ANZ Stadium is at Homebush.

No, it's really not. The Stadium is in Homebush Bay (the suburb, not the bay itself). Homebush is a different place, two suburbs away.

No, Zeno, it's really not. The ANZ Stadium is in the suburb of Sydney Olympic Park, postcode 2127. Homebush Bay is not a suburb. It doesn't have a postcode.

In everyday usage the ANZ Stadium is at Homebush, that is, the vast majority of people would understand what was meant by someone giving that as its location.

That makes no difference to the Eeyore chorus. We're shit. We used to be good, but now we're shit. Nothing is right. The coach is shit. The management is shit. The players are shit. Everything is shit.

Rinse and repeat.

Whatever happened to pride in the achievements of our sportsmen? It has been overtaken by a vast, petulant sulk.

From what's been provided this has nothing to do with anything to related to the Wallabies. It's our admin that seems to be deficient. I'd say I'm quite proud of the team just not with how our leadership conducts its business. Vidiot mentions how only the enthusiasts noticing is a tragedy, I disagree, thank god for small mercies.

That wasn't aimed at you, WorkingClassRugger. It's a general theme that exercises my indignation from time to time.

Very good, Bruce. I've discovered you're right. Homebush Bay (formerly postcode 2144) ceased to be a suburb in 2009, and Sydney Olympic Park was made a suburb at that time. I stopped working there in 2008 so I'm out of touch with those changes. I conceded the point to you, and apologise to Richo for giving him the wrong information.

But that's an unfounded assertion; you should know better. None of us is in a position to make a ruling on "everyday usage" or what "the vast majority" of people understand.

Here's my generalisation: having worked in Homebush Bay, off and on, over quite a few years, I've always found city and eastern suburbs to have a pretty shaky knowledge of that part of town (hell, anywhere west of Leichhardt confuses them). The use of the name "Homebush" for the entire Olympic precinct indicates that they never knew the difference between Homebush, Homebush West and Homebush Bay in the first place; they don't care, and further, wouldn't have any need to know. Why, they only ever go there for things like the Easter Show and Eagles concerts at Acer Arena.

In rugby circles, of course, it's regarded as quite an imposition to be asked to travel there for the Bledisloe Test match. Growden actually called it "the boondocks" last year.

So whether or not such people understand each other when they say "Homebush", they're still ignorantly using the wrong name — and in this context it's a symptom of the mindset that keeps rugby quartered from general view in Sydney.

Was that a generalisation, or another unfounded assertion?
Zeno, some of us in the East might disagree with you because:-
1. We didn't always live there (East)
2. We actually know that neck of the woods (West) quite well from travelling all over the place over years
3. Are quite well versed in the relative location of Leichhardt, since it provides really good coffee and deli foods and places to park our Vespas (generalisation alert!!!)
4. Hate going to the easter show at Homebush as it sucks
5. Would never go to an Eagles concert at Acer!!! Or anywhere else.
6. Hate going to Tests there because it is a soulless, cavernous husk of a stadium unless it has 80 000 people in it, and only the Bledisloe gets that many...sometimes.

I blame twitter! And Greg growden

Blaming Greg Growden is a generally safe strategy.

But you're right about the press. With a very few exceptions, they're either cheerleaders or prophets of doom, and rarely ever anything between those extremes.

I hear the sound of a nail being hit on the head. That sentence sums up our rugby press in Australia.

Either that or the penchant for pedantry displayed by all and sundry. :D

(And to take that pedantry one step further, yeah, I know it's at Olympic Park. I had read your previous statement, Zeno, as being some kinda weird confusion between ANZ and the SFS and used the common generalization to clear things up. Which clearly failed. Apologies.)

4. Easter show is awesome, maybe its because its has bright lights and stuff that goes really fast, combined with the fact that I am 15.
6. Agree. Tahs games should all be at SFS.

IN regards to the ARU announcement, either some serious $#*! is going down, or its a massive PR stunt.

I love the SFS, but I simply cannot make it there by 7:30 on a weekend night (especially a Friday). Homebush is my only shot at getting to superugby

with JON there, it's not going to be any funding for grass roots. I dont think it will be an announcement for the ARC either. ARU doesn't have the money. It may be the relaxing of the rule where Aussies playing overseas cannot be selected for Australia. Maybe they wanna pick George Smith for RWC as Pocock's back up and need to change the rule to do so. It could be the announcement that ARU will take over all state union education and development like they have done in NSW. The CBA has also been up for negotiation too so it might be the announcement of a draft for the professional players to go to clubs other than Uni or Randwick. Though I would imagine if it was this a RUPA representative might be in attendance too. Maybe its the announcement Rocky is taking over as head coach of the Brumbies!

I notice the online store on rugby.com.au has been closed for a few weeks. Maybe a new jersey or a new jersey sponsor?

Maybe 9 is going to move its 'extra time' show to a watchable time slot, or even maybe broadcasting a game or two a week on FTA? No that would be too much to ask, I'm obviously drunk.

I'm going with a 3rd tier competition. I've heard rumblings about this since 2009 and have been waiting for it to manifest.
