WP have lost Willem de Waal for the CC season, only have Grant and need urgent backup in 10. Matt To'omua from the Brumbies has answer their SOS and maybe on the bench for them as early as this weekend against Griquas.

They have some top youngster 10s but they opt for Tooma. What are your thoughts on this youngster?

That's great news.. He could use the hardening up in the CC.

Funny that the stormers should give the Bumbles/Aussies a leg up like this..
Chris Jack is one thing but helping develop a potential threat for the coming season is something very different.

Still.. very happy for Matt.

Wonderful news for both parties. He is extremely talented AND skilled. WP is getting a fine young player and To'omua will get priceless experience.

You got short-term spots for Kurtley Beale, Quade Cooper and Christian Laeliifano as well? :)

Ja Rassie a out of the box thinker. WP now fighting for a home semi spot (currently 1 point behind the Sharks on the log). He sure know if the WP have any change for a home semi, Newlands will draw not less then 40,000 for their remaining home matches and a good CC season just the right medicine to follow with a good S14.

The current backup WP have for Grant is Conrad Hoffman. Now Hoffman and the current 9 (Dewald Duvenhage)is from Paarl and I know their play from U14 days. Excellent 9 talent but green for the 10 position. Dont think they want to plug their U21 or U19 flyhalfs at this moment because both these teams also lies second on their CC tables. They did sign the current SA U20 flyhalf from the Cheetahs Lionel Cronje but he will only arrive at the start of next year.

Sereli will also be fit to start this weekend but the current lot are doing so well I dont think they will change their run on team. Even Pie Eater Januarie will have to play from the bench. WP plays Griekwas who is currently in third spot , 1 point behind them on the table on Newlands on saturday. This match will sort of settle the second spot. If they win they will open up a 5 point lead between second and third with three rounds to go.

Rassie is an out of his head thinker and his results are proof of this.

What do the Stormers and SA rugby have to gain from this.

Paar you're always on about all the development going on. So you are telling me there was no youngster anywhere in SA that could be used? That would be disappointing.

To'omua will be smiling though as would the Brumbies.

I would agree 100% with you if it was outside the CC/SA Club Champs timeframe. All the senior, U21s, U19s & SA Club Champs is tied to there provinces/clubs at this very moment. Thats the only reason I can think of. He tried Hoffman last weekend and he fluffed his change and was sent to Maties to play 10 on the weekend for the club.

Blue I have thought about this again and can think of one player I am sure Rassie & kie will kick themself they could have use now is Ricardo Croy & Ismail Dollie. Know Croy well and played for Paarl Gym & WP the same age group as Ashley Johnson. He left WP a year or so ago for the Eagles, they bought Gaffie back and just notice today he have sign for the Pumas.
Superrugby
Croy moves to log-leading Pumas
Promising South Western District Eagles flyhalf Ricarco Croy has decided to join the Pumas. Croy, who will join the Witbank outfit in November, will be a huge loss for coach Johann Lerm's SWD side.

During the Vodacom Cup competition earlier this year Croy was SWD's biggest star.

He virtually beat Western Province on his own when the two teams clashed at Outeniqua Park.

Croy's move up North was confirmed by the Pumas management. "Ricardo has already signed all the papers," team manager Marius van Rensburg said.

With the arrival of former Springbok Gaffie du Toit at George just before the start of the Currie Cup season, Croy was relegated to the bench.

But last week he was picked at inside centre against the Pumas and played a blinder of a match. Although he received a lot of praise for his performance in the No 12 jersey, it is known that Croy prefers the pivot spot.

Maybe Rassie can get To'omua for not to much money and have obvious studied the kid. I'll keep you lot up to date with his progress in the CC

The only reason I ever go there is to re-check the ratio of smart posters to idjits, which currently stands at 5:95. :lmao:

OK so he is rushed striaght into the match 22 on the bench
SARugby.com
To'omua rushed straight into WP squad
Western Province have rushed new signing Matt To'omua into their matchday 22 as they ready themselves for the crunch match against Griquas at Newlands on Saturday.

With Willem de Waal injured and Peter Grant still learning the ropes at flyhalf the move was made for the young Brumbies player who comes into the side on the bench.

To'omua only arrives in Cape Town tomorrow and will have to play at least a half a game in the next three Western Province game if he is to be eligble for the semi-finals.

As expected Ricky Januarie is named on the bench with Dewaldt Duvenage allowed to continue in the number nine jersey where he has revitalised the backline since taking over from the Springbok reserve scrumhalf.

The biggest news, however, is the return of talismanic hooker Tiaan Liebenberg to the front row. Deon Fourie performed admirably as a replacement in Liebenberg's absence, but Province will welcome back the hard running and bulk of their first choice number two.

De Kock Steenkamp continues in the second row with Martin Muller coming in on the bench to replace Hilton Lobberts who has been loaned out to the Boland Cavaliers.

JC Kritzinger is also a new inclusion on the bench along with To'omua and Muller as he replaces JD Moller on the woodwork.

Another first in thsi weekend CC clashes. First time in history of Tvl/Lions rugby they include a schoolboy Jaco Taute in their match 22 against Boland. Jaco a Monnas (thats where Jac Fourie were schooled) flyhalf but also good on the wing or full back.
