They still haven't really been tested by a quality opposition yet. They put up big scores against two teams - one that is brand new to the comp and the other has only a handful of wins in it's entire history - got smoked by the Tahs and out-kicked a Brumbies team that is in total disarray.....wait till they play the Stormers/Sharks/Crusaders/Blues etc and then I reckon we'll have a better gauge on if they are the goods or not this year....

Agree in respect of the stronger teams but at least they HAVE beaten teams they were EXPECTED to beat as opposed to say, the Tahs. Anyway real test IMO is match against Stormers over there in the cradle of civilisation

I agree but what those wins have done is get the confidence up and the team pointing in the right direction. Of the teams above I most certainly agree with the Crusaders and the Stormers but the others have their own demons of consistency to deal with so I don't see them as bench marks. What the Tahs vs Cheetahs game re enforced is that there are no easy games in this comp and if you do not come prepared to play, you will be rolled. Against the Rebels and Cheetahs the Reds did come prepaired to play.

I think the reds should be pretty competitive against everyone but the crusaders. For that one they'll have to not only turn up but hope the crusaders have a shocker.

I expect a tough encounter but we should sneak a close win. Ellis Park is an awesome stadium and the 'vaalies will be fired up & are a proud side at home with a rich history. I hope our pigs get stuck in from the kick off and not let up otherwise we could be in a bit of strife. If we can build momentum up front, our fire power out wide should be the deciding factor.

More pressure added after the Tahs notched a win last night. The Reds need a win to stay at the top of the Australian Conference and a bonus point to stretch their lead. Hopefully the boys will ignore the news papers and focus on their game.

Reds by 13+. Plenty of confidence going into this game against a team still not sure if they can play the game Mitch gave them.

Muck looking forward to the game tonight. We need not worry about the Tahs; they were average last night. I mean Carter and Cross at 12 and 13.

Reds should win this tonight they aren't getting complacent with teams and ewen makes them show up each week. I hope there are plenty of tries though! Four tries apiece would be a nice reward for giving up sunday morning....

The Reds will be very confidence against the Crusaders - thrashed them last year in a cake walk victory. And to be honest, SBW hasn't come up against anyone who tackles as hard as Anthony Fainga'a yet.

Problem is it's the textbook Fainga'a hard, low tackle that SBW always manages to offload from. Look at the hit Burgess put on him a couple of years ago in the Barbarians game. Great tackle that smashed Williams but he also got a pretty good offload away.

What tackle doesn't SBW get an offload against? He's a freak. Chop him low and put him on the deck asap is the best way to minimise his offload.

Maybe target the ball and not the man like Tune and others used to do when tackling Lohmu.

Tune used to tackle Lomu around the ankles. Bought him down hard everytime. Those who took Lomu on by trying a ball & all tackle became spped bumps.
I agree that Faainga could be the man to stifle Sonny Bills attacking prowess. Faainga attacks with his defense.

Bahahahaha....yeah - SBW isn't used to playing against hard-hitters....who do you think will be more nervous the night before the Saders/Reds game? SBW of Faainga?

Gotta agree. SBW is the most lethal back right now. I can't see anyone shutting him down completely.
