There is a shitload of pace, skill and power in that backline. And plenty of muscle in the forwards with quality on the bench. Bring it on, this is when the Reds ramp it up!

Reds by 20+

hmm not so sure about that. i'm looking forward to seeing the lions lineup (anyone?). their back row has been performing extremely well so i don't think we'll see beau dominate like he did against the cheetahs. minnie has been impressive on the ball for the lions and josh strauss is an animal (or is it just the beard?). the form of waylon murray in their midfield is also worth a mention.

reds to win but by less than 10 with both sides getting a 4 try bonus point.

This is a danger game for the Reds, the Lions are knocking on the door every week and should be scoring more based on Scott Allen's 'Quick ball from the ruck' analysis.

Here's the opposition. Agree with Paarl.

The Lions team to face the Reds is:

Michael Killian, Lionel Mapoe, Waylon Murray, Doppies la Grange, Deon van Rensburg, Andre Pretorius, Jano Vermaak, Warren Whiteley, Joshua Strauss, Cobus Grobbelaar Franco van der Merwe (capt.), David Bulbring, Patric Cilliers, Bandise Maku, JC Janse van Rensburg. Replacements: Edgar Marutlulle, Jacobie Adriaanse, Michael Rhodes, Joshua Strauss, Rory Kockott, Elton Jantjies, Jaco Taute.

pretorius starts with jantjies on the bench! is john mitchell trying to ruin what should be the most entertaining game of the weekend?

so the lions are planning on kicking the leather off it. i might have to change my prediction but then again, pretorius will probably pick up a season ending injury during the warm up.

You've got two Josh Strauss's in there mate :) Should be Minnie on the bench for the replacement Strauss in your lineup above.

Good Question. That was copied direct from - http://www.lionsrugby.co.za/index.p...-takes-over-as-mtn-lions-captain-against-reds

Appears they have corrected it now. Still think we will put the cleaners through them, but not by 50.

La Grange takes over as MTN Lions captain against Reds
March 31 - The MTN Lions will have a new captain when they run on against the Reds in a Super Rugby match at Coca-Cola Park on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).

Franco van der Merwe, who captained the side in the Currie Cup last year as well as in their six Super Rugby matches this season, has been replaced as captain by vice-captain Doppies la Grange. It comes after a decision in which both the management and the team had input.
Van der Merwe said on Thursday he had to pay more attention to his game. He pointed out that centre La Grange was playing well and had the following of the players.

Although the match-22 is unchanged from the side that lost 30-23 against the Bulls last year is unchanged, Coach John Mitchell has made two changes to the starting side.

Young Springbok flyhalf Elton Jantjies, who has been thrown into the deep end and mixed some good play with some ordinary patches in his six matches to date, is on the bench and former Springbok flyhalf Andre Pretorius moves up to partner Jano Vermaak at halfback. Mitchell said that Pretorius’ selection was to give more direction to the Lions’ game.

In the pack, Joshua Strauss returns in place of Derek Minnie who is rested. He starts off the bench..

The bench remains the same except for Minnie and Jantjies’ swap with Strauss and Pretorius respectively.

The Lions team to face the Reds is:

Michael Killian, Lionel Mapoe, Waylon Murray, Doppies la Grange, Deon van Rensburg, Andre Pretorius, Jano Vermaak, Warren Whiteley, Joshua Strauss, Cobus Grobbelaar Franco van der Merwe, David Bulbring, Patric Cilliers, Bandise Maku, JC Janse van Rensburg. Replacements: Edgar Marutlulle, Jacobie Adriaanse, Michael Rhodes, Derick Minnie, Rory Kockott, Elton Jantjies, Jaco Taute.

Who is Jano Vermaak? and why is he playing ahead of Rory Kockott?

Kockette is kak. Mitchell is losing the plot by the day. Playing the souties more and more every game and leaving the boertjies out. Vok I cant understand the way they treat Jaco Taute.

I'm stunned to hear that Pretorius is starting ahead of Jantjies! Pretorius is one of the greatest myths of South African rugby. It won't last long though, he gets injured just sitting down (literally!). With Jantjies, the Lions are very dangerous, but they don't manage the game well yet. They're all out attack. which has cost them, particularly against the Blues. Minnie has been outstanding this far.

Vermaak is a very good scrummy, we're blessed with lots of them. Were it not for quotas like Conradie, Januarie and Adams, he would havw been capped a few years ago easily. Kockott is pretty good, but he must control that temper of his! As we've seen repeatedly with Bismarck, poor temperament can cost you games.

Good looking team and seems Link is rotating a few. Has covered his bets by leaving Daley, Simmo and Taps on the bench but where is Chambers. Thought Shep might might have got at least a bench spot. Suppose if Slipper replaced then Holmes to THP and Daley to LHP - all are 80 minute players which must be very satisfying for link.

i reckon this is a very astute rotation by link. gets harris and AWH in the mix, which they fully deserve, puts diggers in what i feel is his best , most destructive position, and gives the new scrummie some possible game time if we get far enuff in front, backup for lucas just in case. inspired stuff.....

March on the Reds

They still haven't really been tested by a quality opposition yet. They put up big scores against two teams - one that is brand new to the comp and the other has only a handful of wins in it's entire history - got smoked by the Tahs and out-kicked a Brumbies team that is in total disarray.....wait till they play the Stormers/Sharks/Crusaders/Blues etc and then I reckon we'll have a better gauge on if they are the goods or not this year....

BR i agree with you. However i reckon they'll step it up against the 'big name' teams. Exciting times for QRU indeed.
