Brumbies vs the Lions in Johannesburg Sunday..

Brumbies team here

Tom Banks, Henry Speight, Tevita Kuridrani, Kyle Godwin, Andrew Murihead, Christian Lealiifano, Jow Powell, Isi Naisarani, David Pocock, Rob Valetini, Sam Carter, Rory Arnold, Allan Ala'alatoa, Folau Fainga’a, Scott Sio

Reserves: Robbie Abel, Nick Mayhew, Ben Alexander, Blake Enever, Lachlan McCaffrey, Tom Cusack, Matt Lucas, Andrew Smith

Good to see the Naisarani Poey Valetini backrow, lets hope they can get some form together and start putting teams away.

I don't think the backrow will be the issue, somehow. Good looking team, though.

Two backrowers on the bench. Would that indicate some worries over the starting players?

Possibly........ although it would be harsh to completely drop Cusack or McCaffrey on recent form.

And considering the form of our backs it's probably a benefit only having two of them on the bench.

Dyantyi at 13 for the Lions with battering ram RJVR at 12 hoping to offload to the speedster who is, apparently, accustomed to playing 13 and prefers it.

Lions
15 Andries Coetzee, 14 Sylvian Mahuza, 13 Aphiwe Dyantyi, 12 Rohan Janse van Rensburg, 11 Madosh Tambwe, 10 Elton Jantjies, 9 Nic Groom, 8 Hacjivah Dayimani, 7 Franco Mostert (captain), 6 Kwagga Smith, 5 Marvin Orie, 4 Lourens Erasmus, 3 Ruan Dreyer, 2 Robbie Coetzee, 1 Dylan Smith

Substitutes: 16 Corne Fourie, 17 Jacques van Rooyen, 18 Johannes Jonker, 19 Len Massyn, 20 Marnus Schoeman, 21 Ross Cronje, 22 Shaun Reynolds, 23 Ruan Combrinck

EDIT: The Lions have done some experiments this year w.r.t playing Mostert at 7 and now Dyantyi at 13. I wonder if it is not another directive from Rassie, given his close working relationship of late with Swys (who will assist the Boks for the incoming tour) to develop another black player in a position other than the back three.

Having as many as possible for 2019's 50% representation will be crucial considering injuries could easily wipe a couple of candidates out of the showpiece.

With that said, I do like Dyantyi and Nkosi from the Sharks over our other wingers because despite them being green, their base skills are very good already and will only get better.

Despite our (SA) woes of late, if we can sort out the aerial disasters from the past two seasons South Africa has the capability to field a deadly quick backline.

Who covers 10 if CLL gets injured/can't stay on for the whole match? I'm not sure from that Brums lineup who can slot in - Banks? Surely not Godwin?

I'd say it be Godwin..but I'd have selected JJH for that reason but Godwin will do might even open up his game a bit

And we’re off to a good start..........

Robbie Abel ruled out of the match with a calf strain.

Les Makin comes onto the bench as there’s no third hooker touring with the squad.

Valetini looks crocked again, going off at the 65th minute.........

Pocock one of the first players subbed off along with Naisarani 50 mins in............

Brumbies have played a chunk of the second half without a lock or flyhalf, with Arnold red carded after his second card, Carter seemingly giving away his second obvious maul penalty in a row after being warned as if he wanted to leave the field.......... and Lilo subbed despite not having any other flyhalf or goal kicker.

And now Les Makin is playing hooker because we didn't have another hooker in the squad.

What a mess....... that was a decent match until the last 10 min blowout.

Brumbies valiant for 65 minutes before the Red/yellow card double and the Lions scoring 21 points in the last quarter.

Hard to win with a 20-9 penalty count against.

They were certainly the better team when they had 15 on the park. God but they were gutsy right to the end though.

Bugger for some reason I thought this game was at 1:15 pm today, not AM... I should have read my own post.. looks like I would have been throwing stuff at the TV by the end again so maybe I will just be happy I didnt see another lose.

Arnold looks like he be gone a few weeks..

I'm not so sure, but it depends on the SANZAAR wheel of justice............

The card itself was fair, which ultimately led him to be red carded on the field and they might deem that to be the end of it......... he's made the attempt to go low but unfortunately when you're the tallest player trying to put on a big hit on the shortest there's that risk.

Watchign it now. OK, 70 mins in, we're only down by 4. Played really, really well in the last 10mins with 13 men, only conceded the one try straight after the YC to Carter, the dumb fuck.

Lealiifano and TK just went off, Valetini still ok, we're well in this and should be able to step up once Carter gets back on the field and close it out from here.
