Maybe Beale, Deans and MacQueen think he is a fullback.

The Tahs have messed him about since he left school. Why would the world's best fullback want to play at 10, knowing that you are ranked 4th in that position in Australia.

Good on him. I'm very pleased to see the Rebels get a Wallaby in their team. With the support their getting it's important.

Best wishes to KB (Kurtley Beale) - I think he'll flourish there. He's just doing a Sookface and leaving a sinking ship. The Tahs are on a downhill trajectory and he knows it. Outside of him their only decent players are Fat Cat, TPN and Mitchell.

That said, how can anyone in this thread seriously regard him as "the best backline player / best 5/8 in Australia" when QC (Quade Cooper) has a better step, waaaayy better long pass, better off the mark pace (wouldn't have said that until a few weeks ago) better tactical kicking game, a better control of the game and just better X factor altogether.

Oh and a tip for the RWC, hasn't anyone else noticed Beale is still weak under the high ball? I hate the thought of him playing FB in the semi against SA or England - high balls all day and an early exit for the Walllabies.

Why would any team bother to kick to KB (Kurtley Beale) when they can just run thru QC (Quade Cooper)?

The good news, apart from if you are a Rebels fan, is that he will be playing in Oz - and playing rugby union.

I'll second that last comment Lee. Thank goodness he didn't go mungo, as I recall yourself predicted may happen one day. Was it something like "a league player playing union rather than a union player playing union"? Did you still think he will switch to league some day?

People have mentioned vickerman and staniforth leaving the tahs. However this makes me alot more bitter as its to another super franchise.

As said by others the only positive is he hasn't gone to league.

As a Tahs fan, I'm absolutely gutted to see Kurtley go. We've been screaming "electrifying!" and "go the Tesla!" at every touch the last few years and it won't be the same at the SFS without him around to bring a bit of excitement to the place.

But I can see why Kurtley would want a change, I'm glad it was Melbourne that got him, and it's bloody fantastic that he's still playing rugby. I hope the plan is to put him at fullback and leave him there so he can become one of our greatest ever at that position. Anyone who thinks the Rebels would have been better off without him is off their bloody rocker.

I don't know about that. Kepu, Dennis, Mowen, Burgess, Sookface, Turner and Horne are all pretty handy.

And no way Cooper is faster off the mark that Kurtley. Kurtley might just be the fastest over 15m in the world at the moment, or close to it.

I'm genuinely surprised at this. I'd have thought that he would have been pretty solid with the Tahs. With that said, in his shoes I'd jump at the chance to play under Rod MacQueen. I'm interested to see where he'll end up positionally and I guess it comes down to what happens with Cips in 2012. If he stays another season, KB (Kurtley Beale) will be at fullback, otherwise he'll be at 10. I'll also be interested to see where Gerard plays too, because I've been very impressed with him at fullback for the Rebs. Making it into the RWC squad as backup kind of impressed.

I was scrolling down and was just about to say - maybe Beale wants to play at 10, and who better to convert a fullback into a world class 5/8 than Macqueen?

It was Greg Smith who put Larkham at 10 first - Macqueen did not do everything in Aust rugby

at least the Tahs bar bill will be reduced by 50% now!

The way they are playing, they will need to save costs everywhere

I always thought he would and folks maybe forget, or didn't know, that he always played league up until when he went to high school at Joeys. I've seen him at league matches with his mates too. He always looked like a league player at school, as did Quade - but then: Carlos Spencer always looked like a league player in the wrong code.

I guess the only reason why he wouldn't switch is because he is such a hot property now that he could have priced himself out of the league market. That's something I wouldn't have thought about 12 months ago.

According to Growden in the SMH KB (Kurtley Beale) can earn $1 mill next year with the ARU top up plus test match and 3rd party payments.

The difference would be in the 3rd party payments but change probably had an attraction for him.

for that kind of money it would be crazy for him to stay

If there is 'no rugby culture' in Melbourne, then this signing will surely be a huge boost to a first year outfit. It would be a shame to see Cips leave though, if it comes to that. Hopefully they can retain him and Phipps.
