Who was the last front line Waratah to leave for another Australian franchise? Has been a long time, especially considering the rate of movement between the teams these days.

Depends on your definition of "front line". Palmer might have been the closest in recent memory, leaving to the Brumbies last year. In the season before he left got a fair bit of game time if I remember correctly, thanks to injuries. You can't really count Freier I guess, as he was perma-injured and I don't think he even played the season before he left?

Maybe Dunning before that, but he was on the outer before hand. There's actually been a few fringe players who had been making the bench in the last few years. Before Dunning there was Sheehan and Valentine, among others.

But you might have to go back to Cannon/Shepherd to the Force get a regular starting player?

Shows that the Tahs tend to burn 'em out overseas or destroy their confidence/bodies (and thus their contracts!) instead of sharing the wealth around to the other provinces, like the oh-so-generous Reds! ;)

There was a certain fullback who used to like making intercepts and had a falling out with a wallabies coach. He was a walk up start for the Tahs. Vickerman was another who left all be it to pursue such a silly thing like education.

good luck to him, sad to see him go, reckon he will become the best flyhalf in aus over the next two years then return home to nsw.

can only hope that the support network that has seen him get over his bad habbits moves with him or another is set up, he has an amazing future and i hope he doesnt fall again.

rebels look to be putting together a pretty good team, reckon cips is gone, beale will play fly, JOC (James O'Connor) inside him and cummins outside.

I guess it's good he's staying with Australian rugby union, but I'm still disappointed. Beale has the capacity to be one of the better attacking players Australia has ever produced, whether at fullback or 5/8, and I was seriously looking forward to him guiding us to our inaugural (and long overdue) Super rugby title.

Personally I'd ditch the AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) signing on the spot in order to keep Beale.

That's the way I am reading it. Although I am sure you mean Inman at outside.

As for the support networks, I hope the positive noise that's about regarding the 'culture' at the Rebels will serve in that regard.

Oh dear. How could he leave the Tahs - the strongest franchise in Oz on the same money? Me thinks there is something else.

He may be on the same money as paid by the franchises, but he would be able to command huge money in third party deals. What franchise wouldn't want one of the worlds top 5 on their playing roster.

I was worried that the AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) signing may encourage kurtley to leave due to more competition for the 15 jersey. But if it really is just a change of culture he wants then I blame all those Booers at the SFS! Hopefully this move doesn't effect him mentally and his form keeps up for the remainder of the Tahs season.

There'd have been no competition. Beale is a much better 15 than AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper). I suspect AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) was signed primarily to cover 13, on the assumption that Horne will be broken forever. Or perhaps the Tah's were thinking of Barnes at 12, with Beale at 10, and AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) at 15.

Who would you rather be coached by - Hickey or Macqueen? Macqueen has shown he's still one of the best in the business, with his team performing far above expectations. Will do untold good for Beale's development.

and Hickey is in his last year at the Tahs, likely Foley will take over in 2012

Big signing for the Rebels that's a massive blow for the Tahs losing their best backline player maybe even the best back in OZ.

The Tahs may chase hard for Quade & JOC (James O'Connor) now.

They already stole Barnes and Mitchell form us.

mitchell actually signed from the force to tahs, so no stealing there.

Barnes walked out on the reds and was a free agent before the tahs signed him.

kurtley told the tahs he would sign this week after getting back from perth, tahs shouldnt have let him wait.

If that is true, it is pretty ordinary as he should not have given his word and just said zip.

I suspect Maqueen has just found his next Stephen Larkham.

Good on him and hope it works out well for him.

I was scrolling down and was just about to say - maybe Beale wants to play at 10, and who better to convert a fullback into a world class 5/8 than Macqueen?

Best wishes to KB (Kurtley Beale) - I think he'll flourish there. He's just doing a Sookface and leaving a sinking ship. The Tahs are on a downhill trajectory and he knows it. Outside of him their only decent players are Fat Cat, TPN and Mitchell.

That said, how can anyone in this thread seriously regard him as "the best backline player / best 5/8 in Australia" when QC (Quade Cooper) has a better step, waaaayy better long pass, better off the mark pace (wouldn't have said that until a few weeks ago) better tactical kicking game, a better control of the game and just better X factor altogether.

Oh and a tip for the RWC, hasn't anyone else noticed Beale is still weak under the high ball? I hate the thought of him playing FB in the semi against SA or England - high balls all day and an early exit for the Walllabies.
