Reports starting to come about KB (Kurtley Beale) moving to Melbourne, when Wayne Smith thinks its happening then I'd say it deserves its own thread:

WARATAHS and Wallabies fullback Kurtley Beale has agreed to terms with Australia's newest Super Rugby franchise, the Rebels, and will move to Melbourne next season.
Beale, one of six finalists for the IRB Player of the Year in 2010, is expected to announce today his decision to switch from the Waratahs, which he joined straight out of school, to the Rod Macqueen-coached Rebels.

The deal was done surprisingly quickly, with the negotiations lasting little more than a week.

It is understood that the Rebels' offer was comparable to what the Waratahs put on the table but that, after five seasons with NSW, 22-year-old Beale was ready for a change.

This is huge, and would greatly increase the chances of JOC (James O'Connor) moving I reckon, as well as Cipriani staying.

We could use a JO'C but I don't think we really need a Beale. Great player (Beale) and I don't mind Gerrad at 13 (he's too slow for wing) but with Morty, Inman and Mitchel we just don't need him.

Also, where would I inquire about contributing to the blog here? I like writing but I stopped going on the roar probably last year because it's an almighty perpetual shitfight amongst its users.

Done. And good on him - joining a club with a chance at some silverware...

I think it definitely increases the chances of the former but I am not sure about the latter. It will make the Rebels less willing to bend over backwards to keep Cips, which may see him leave.

Then again, if he really is here to play with the best and the Rebels start putting together a first rate backline, then we should see him stay.

It will be a question of Cipriani's character, I think.

Good luck to him. He's had 5 years with the Tahs and the change will be good for him. Could be that his decisions could influence others - one way or the other.

BTW, the one position the Rebels seem loaded in is outside backs - Gerrard, Vuna, now Kingi, Rooney (who has been holding his own), Mitchell, du Plessis and so on and on. Admittedly, not all of them may be top class Super 15 players.

Who was the last front line Waratah to leave for another Australian franchise? Has been a long time, especially considering the rate of movement between the teams these days.

Fuck.

I do hope JOC (James O'Connor) moves to Melbourne now as well. Would love to see them play together. And Cipriani if he hangs around.

Am surprised he would give up playing in what will be essentially an all Wallaby back line next year though.

Oh dear. How could he leave the Tahs - the strongest franchise in Oz on the same money? Me thinks there is something else.

Many Rebels fans are probably hoping for the same. Maybe just get 1 out of those 2. We can probably only keep Cips for 1 more year at best anyway.

This move underlines a reality that was always going to be the case with the Rebels. They could not poach players effectively last year because of contracts running to the World Cup year or people being unwilling to take a risk just before the World Cup in an unknown quantity. I think it would be naive to think they weren't going to be aggressive this year in pursuing more known quantities, especially since they have been remarkably successful in their first year with the cattle that they had.

Indeed....

Aside from the money, the Rebels have the added benefit of having the Melbourne lifestyle as an attractive addition...

Also, their home fans don't boo them if they lose a game...

Me thinks they'll pull off a few good poaches...

My mail is that the AVO he took out against #1 Tah wasn't working and Perth was just too far to go...;)

We will be second guessing why Beale is moving to the cows come home but players go to other cities for all kinds of reasons. The main ones are more money and the need for a change, but there are a lot of others.

The good news, apart from if you are a Rebels fan, is that he will be playing in Oz - and playing rugby union.
