Kaplan - Can we petition to ensure he never referees an Australian side again?

I think the frustration with refs at the moment can partly be explained by their lack of experience. At the start of the season only half of the 16 top ranked SANZAR refs had been in charge of more than 10 games. It might not get much better soon as 16 of the next 27 games will be controlled by the inexperience ones. On the plus side, Kaplan's only got one (Sharks v Lions) so maybe the petition is working.

Agreed, different interpretations ruck to ruck - like Nathan Pearce in the dying seconds Force v Blues!

I actually reckon that was a right decision from the ref. There was no doubt in my mind that the Force players were diving off their feet to protect the ball. I actually think the ref should've blown 2 or so rucks earlier, though. I was acutally watching it wincing - hoping that the Force weren't going to get penalised, but knew that it was coming, and what's more, that it was justified. Really poor breakdown technique from the Force.

I agree, the point I was adding to was one of referee consistency.

AH Bullrush. Glad you bit. At least post some argument or evidence that POB has systems in place to mentor assist the referees to improve. If he does indeed have these systems in place show some evidence they are not an abject failure.

Face it your country man has failed his charges utterly. They have been the ones getting held up to ridicule, getting "rested" when the systems in place have failed to develop them and properly coach them as a group to gain consistency.

Leading rugby referee Jonathan Kaplan has been injured in a motorcycle accident but should be fit to officiate at the World Cup.

South African Kaplan was riding a scooter in Cape Town when a taxi door opened unexpectedly in front of him.

He suffered a cut to a leg in the collision that required 30 stitches.

The injury forced Kaplan to withdraw from the Currie Cup match between the Blue Bulls and the Free Sate Cheetahs

South African refereeing boss, Andre Watson, said the injury won't prevent Kaplan from attending the World Cup.

Kaplan is the most experienced whistleman in test rugby and is central to the refereeing team assembled for the tournament that kicks off in New Zealand on September 9.

He will now look to get over the injury for a busy August that sees him have some key appointment sin the leadup to the World Cup.

Kaplan is due to be an assistant referee for the match between England and Wales at Twickenham on August 6 and referee the rematch between the two northern giants in Cardiff a week later.

He is also refereeing Ireland against France in Dublin on August 20.

As much as I don't like Kaplan I hope the SANZAR judiciary finally get their act together and cite the knob who opened the door on him.
