Not the first or 2nd time
I have been a very strident critic of Kaplan for a long time, hence this thread.
But I must say the standard of refereeing this year and last has been very very poor. It is not the interpretations that are being used as such it is the gross inconsistancy week to week, official to official and sometimes within games that is ruining the contest. Players are going out on the field not knowing what is legal and what isn't because they do not know how a referee will interpret the Laws and apply them.
So in defence of Kaplan and the other referees I must say sack Paddy Obrien, who has failed utterly to coach and prepare international referees adequately. He is the man ultimately repsonsible for the training and development of the match officials and ensuring that the Laws are consistently interpreted and applied. It is obvious whatever systems Obrien has put in place are an abysmal failure and as such he MUST go.
I said this last year and the year before, even before his disasterous and integrity compromising "visit" to the ABs dressing room post Italy test.
I await the standard Kiwi defenders of POB.
Kiwi response: Meh. We lost a RWC due to a poor ref and I'm sure almost no-one cared about it then. Take a couple of get over it pills with a big tall juicy glass of harden up.
We need more OZ refs on the SANZAR panel for Super15 matches. There's only one if you don't count Steve Walsh ( and I don't! ). Who do you replace Kaplan with at the moment? Joubert? What a joke! I cannot believe a country who produced great refs like Col Waldren can't have at least 4 ( homegrown ) refs in a local provincial comp. We can't surely be worse than the rubbish running around at the moment and as a bonus some of the incredible bias may be evened out.
You lost the world cup because you went into the sheds thinking the thing is in the bag and the frogs came out and played rugby.

Maybe you need to go venture over to some of the other rugby forums?
I don't know anyone who does either. You see.....it's all just opinion. Some people think forward passes are OK and some of us don't.

Agreed, different interpretations ruck to ruck - like Nathan Pearce in the dying seconds Force v Blues!

On the other hand a know loads of people who think NZ thought they could coast home and got a surprise.
