I wouldn't say it is especially biased. The problem in (south-east) Queensland is that apart form the 2 big comps (GPS, AIC) and one smaller one (TAS), there is no framework or competition for other schools to play in. Add to this the fact that they have to pick a team in the june-july holidays before the GPS comp has actually been played.

I would much rather they set up a full fixture list for all rugby schools in term 2 which would allow the selectors to get a good look at the talent before picking a rep team. And then in term 3 the schools could break into their traditional groups and play their GPS, AIC and TAS fixtures. No loss of tradition, huge potential gain in identifying talent and improving school participation.

Of course this one goes in the too hard basket.

Instead they throw money at the NTS so they can build up some 15 year old superstar and then watch them play reserve colts and 3rd grade when the other kids develop.

^^^^ I wonder about the NTS/NGS argument.

It would be interesting to do a cost benefit analysis on the graduates of that programme. Undoubtedly some have been bypassed in Colts 2s, and 3rd grade, but some have probably kicked on to become Wobs or S15 professionals.

Being a rather masonic organisation it is not all that easy to map "where are they now?" to establish the benefits of the squads.

Has anyone managed to assemble a list of the graduates and where they are now so some objective comment may be made?

It's not perfect which is why I thought adding the EPS guys or perhaps making it academy sides with a youth quota might be better, but it's a start and something practical.

The fact we have the talent at 18 before it is divided up just ads to the illustration of why the wallabies find it hard to compete. Between schoolboys and under 20s we manage to lose so much talent to other codes.

Problem is how do we get all the young guys not involved in the Qld and nsw u20s to move interstate to bolster the wa and Vic teams?

Also I am sure the u20 players would learn more playing with some old heads in the team. So as you suggest a comp closer to a reserve one with say 50% min u20s might work better. Or U21s

And to show him what they really think of him they play for a draw: it all fits when you think about it!
