I hope Easts can give it a good go this year. Hopefully the Able bros can make a difference and will bring some physicality to the team. I think they will give a few teams a touch up this year.

Going off Easts Facebook page they seem to of been recruiting fairly hard in the off-season - I forgot about the Abel brothers aswell - I honestly reckon Robbie should be in the Brumbies side over Mann-Rea - but great for Easts if he is playing with them every round - I really hope they do well this year.

I guess the 1st round clash V's Royals at Griffith will be the test and hopefully a cracker of a game.

The blue baggers and the tri colours kicking off the season at the old ACT Rugby hq. Might head to that one.
What are the other round 1 fixtures?
My top 4:
Royals Eagles Vikings Whites
The tri colours, students and Lions will push hard and not be far away.

Expecting a very close, tightly contested season, so my predictions are:

Queanbeyan - solid outfit with depth and consistency
Vikings - a replenished squad but still a threat
Eagles - have recruited strongly and will surprise many
Royals - pressure on to repeat last year's performance, but still strong
Easts - still a work in progress but seem to be moving in the right direction
Wests - might struggle this year, but could be wrong
Uni - have lost key players and seem to struggle every 3 years (students leaving)

Am new to this forum so looking forward to contributing and hearing everyone's views.

Hey mate - sorry abit of a typo on my end Easts FIRST game is V's Royals - Easts have a BYE 1st round - the only games 1st round are -

Royals V Queanbeyan @ Phillip
Tuggeranong V Eagles @ Vikings Park

Easts, Uni, Wests - BYE

I think Whites will win in a very close game (3 points or below)

Vikings to possibly win 30-40+

2nd Round -

Easts V Royals
Eagles V Whites
Uni V Wests

Tuggers - BYE

Anymore details on the off season recruiting of Gunghalin? What makes you think they will be stronger this year?

Having the likes of Ray Dobson and Tom Hall join the club is a real coup. Both are genuine talent. Also a number of young kids snapped up through the Brumbies 20s adds some vital depth - and if it seems they have secured JP Fenikitau, then that's a bonus too.

With his first season as 1st grade coach already under his belt, I think Dan Atkins will have a good handle on how his side needs to perform to be a genuine contender this season. Players should have now adapted to his coaching style and expectations, so I would expect this, along with some handy recruits, should provide for a much inproved season. But, that's just my prediction and I could very easily be proven wrong, who knows.

Anyways, JID 'match of the round' to be streamed online.........

Canberra's premier club rugby coaches have flagged the possibility of using live-streaming technology to take a more professional approach to the John I Dent Cup as it steps into the digital age this year.

The ACT Brumbies have struck a deal to have the match of the round streamed live on the internet every week of the John I Dent Cup season, starting with a clash between defending premiers Royals and the Queanbeyan Whites on Saturday.

I much preferred the red, white and black.... tri-colours is always a winner....

Yep the Red, White, Black was their best kit - the last few season BLK red/white kit was terrible I reckon.

Liking the new kit but as you said - red, white, black is the winner.

The BLK was a "heritage" style as they were originally in the red and white hoops or Blood and Bandages ;)

Def a stronger looking side than last year - hopefully they can keep a strong (er) side throughout the whole season this year though - would like to see Robbie Abel in the 23 for the Brumbies each week though.

Anyone know how the lower grades for Easts are going for numbers and how their joint venture with ADFA is going? I can see on the drew there is no mention of Easts/ADFA - does this sort of indicate that Easts didn't go ahead with this joint venture in the lower grades?

I think it Easts and RMC, Easts providing 3rd grade (Div 1, 1sts) and RMC providing 4th grade (Div1 2nd grade). It'll be like the mid 90's when RMC were Easts 3rd grade. http://community.brumbies.com.au/competition-overview/
