I don't know how to call this one. Lots of newspapers coming out and saying this is a done deal to be announced Monday. Someone is talking turkey....but who it is has yet to be determined. Are rugby journalists just trying to make a name for themselves by calling it first?

Wow. That will be a blow for the Force but Pandaram was wrong about Phipps moving back to Sydney; so you never know.

What the Rebels need more though is forwards who don't wait to see what happens but rather to make things happen. When they watch the tape of the game last night - they should look at what the Highlander guys were doing. Many of their forwards are bread and butter players but together they acted like a wolf pack and their imperative to be on the ball was predatory, accordingly.

With wolves in front of them instead of lambs the Rebels backs would have looked better - on attack, at least.

Facts

1 The rebels have not signed James Oconnor
2 The money quoted as being paid to Beale is ridiculous to the extreme and does the young man a disservice as to his reasons for change.
3 Their are around 40 players in Aust Rugby on ARU contracts. The Rebels currently have 4 out of these 40 and none of them has played for the Wallabies in 3 years. Signing Kurtley makes 5. Does that look equitable and like a team trying to buy a premiership. why was there no big deal about the already star laden Warartahs signing AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper).
4 Danny Cipriani is under contract for 2012 full stop.

Blue, you ought to be careful about claiming 'facts' if you dont know the exact details, ie Kurtley Beales salary is privy to very few people and i highly doubt you are one of them... Same can be said for those who are alleging KB (Kurtley Beale) is on a $million plus salaries, they are basing this on little evidence as well.

We get nowhere discussing pay packets anyway. Safe to say the guy is earning a good living wherever he goes. Same with JOC (James O'Connor), and deservedly so.

I think this all will be sorted one way or another come the start of next week. Will be a nervy wait for a lot of people I suspect.

Blue you shouldn't claim FACTS.
1. I would say few people really know the truth about JOCs contractual status and they will not be telling before Monday. But where there is this much smoke this invariably a fire, too many Journos have staked what reputation they have on this now.
2. I agree about the huge amount being paid to Beale, but then I think about the ridiculous money being paid to Deans and he hasn't shown the results that Beale has. Who if offered huge sums for their professional services would not take it when such a contract does not betray your morals or involve illegalities? The true fact is that Beale was off contract and a free agent unlike SBW when he proved faithless and proved his word and signature is morally worthless. You like so many others have failed to question why Beale wanted to leave NSW, the team he has played with since leaving school and was associated with before school. Do you think he is sick of the political playing behind the scenes? The constant under performance year after year? The poor coaching and systems? If the Rebels were a listed company, they would have to be rated as 'Outperform' as they have exceeded the expectations of most pundits, even taking into account last night's performance.
3. This is the very reason why most pundits didn't rate the rebels a chance at all, and some said they will not win a game, and perhaps it is a reason that Beale looked at the Rebels and saw a truly masterful coach and Rugby brain there and wanted to learn and develop under the best. It could well be said that NSW and the Brumbies have for many years hoarded Australian talent as they pushed for Super success, to very little effect as they have poor coaching systems and tactics IMO. I think this is another reason to find credence in the reports of JOC (James O'Connor) joining the Rebels, I do not rate Graham as a coach at any level. Under the Wallabies when he was skills coach the basic skills execution of all the players deteriorated, and since being in charge of the Force the disasterous and ill conceived selections cannot have done anything but help JOC (James O'Connor) move on.
4. Cipriani almost didn't play this year. I would not be surprised if he was released at the end of this year. I will go so far as to say if he does seek release and returns to England the press and assessments of him ion the NH were right. That is, he is a very gifted, if somewhat erratic player who enjoys a playboy lifestyle and lacks the commitment to be successful at the highest level.

I think the hardest part about this to swallow, is that we keep losing key position players where we have no depth of cover. We don't have another Inman or JOC (James O'Connor) in the squad. If we had lost a back rower, I would probably shrug and think that for Australian rugby on the whole it was a good thing.

Well said. Separately, I would like to see the Age take Grumbles back to his roots - then some of these politicians would lose their mouthpiece.

One thing that has gone unsaid about these contract negotiations is that players are choosing between Australian rugby teams and not between Oz and Europe or League and Union. I am hoping this is the dawn of a new age for Oz rugby where we retain our best and next best players for longer in their careers.

Not any more Gav. Anouncement by Gav. GAGR exclusive (well semi). Was this a one to one conversation Gav. Should you really betray a confidence if that is so?

Has anyone seen working details of the 2012 salary cap?

Beale and JOC (James O'Connor) won't leave much money for the rest. Brian.......cone back, all is forgiven.

From what I've read it seems the salary cap is more of just a guidline rather than a hard and fast rule. I think you will see most teams might be a couple of hundred over for a few years as they readjust payments.
