Biebergate update: Brumbies in play?

The Melbourne Rebels appeared to have snared the signature of one of Australian rugby's brightest stars on Friday when reports surfaced O'Connor had agreed to a deal with Super Rugby's newest franchise.

But O'Connor's manager - David Shand - called Brumbies chief executive Andrew Fagan on Friday night to assure him the 20-year-old had not discounted a move to Canberra.

The Sun-Herald understands O'Connor has spoken with Larkham about a possible move to the capital and Fagan will meet with the whizkid and his manager early this week.

How long did ripia sign for? If JOC (James O'Connor) goes at least we don't need too spend a fortune on a 10 next year. I wish the force had the opportunities that the rebels have got 5 years ago.

Also has Inman signed with the rebels? I had no idea

Go the force!!!!

You cant blame the kid for moving. I'm thinking the salary caps being introduced in a few years had a thing to do with it. Its probably the last chance any players have to make big money here in oz. And even though their loyalty isn't with there club teams, I'm happy its still with Australia and not overseas which would be the worst thing possible. This could mean JOC (James O'Connor) & Beale may not consider playing overseas as they are already getting paid well here. At least i hope so.

OK i'll just give JOC (James O'Connor) a call then.

edit: Got voicemail. Will try the CEO of the Rebels

edit: He is out to lunch. Left a message.

Now we play the waiting game.

2 years. And as a 'foreign development player' he has staked his lot with the ARU.

Or opening up some options. He might have seen how well Daniel Braid went with the Reds and hopes that more gametime over here will give him a chance of playing for the AB's or the Wallabies.

things have to be tough in Wellington Rugby to risk the position of death with the Force on a 2 year deal

Maybe he could see what the Canes were going to bring this year and could bring himself to stay and be a part of it. Or maybe he thought he would get an injury and get paid for 2 years on the beach in Perth.

The deal is done, straight from the horses mouth. Signed yesterday, announcement on Monday, as per the many media reports.

Monday has come and gone Gav, you might want to go back and have a word to that horse.....

If JOC (James O'Connor)'s manager is doing his job properly he will be trying to squeeze as many dollars out of the clubs as he can, I wouldn't be surprised if it drags out all week.

At least the manager isn't playing the League or French club cards, the most entertaining circus will be when attention turns to Quades negotiations!!

The Reds have already re-signed Quade for the 2012 season.
