I think the difference in Jim's coaching performance with the Wobs as opposed to Munster, is the cattle he had to work with. You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.
If you can coach, you can coach. You don't lose the skills.
It is not like the player ratings for each Wobs piggy is high, but they are not working well as a unit.(which would indicate a coaching issue)

My suspicion is that going from player to 'coach' with the same set of guys at Munster which includes the likes of POC is VERY different to suddenly be in charge of an international weak spot in a team.

Well and truly hung out to dry, I suppose it was inevitible. Someone had to go I suppose. I think it's harsh on Williams though, the forwards weren't exactly good but to be fair at the RWC Williams didn't have much stock to work with. I still think the decision not to bring a back up 7 cost us an easier run to the RWC final. Common sense says Pocock had a high chance of injury. It beggars belief.

I still don't get how he was hung out to dry. He has had 3+ years, it was his job to coach forwards, he is in the coaching team and if his voice wasn't on selections then that's an even sadder inditement of his abilities to do the job.

Sorry to see this happen to Jim. Even as a Leinster supporter I have a lot of respect for him for what he did as a player and a coach with Munster. But in a much more difficult job with Australia he didn't deliver.

From an outside point of view it looks a bit like how England replaced MJs coaches and gave him one more chance on the understanding that the next failure was on him not the coaches.

The next best 'genuine 7' would not have made a difference in us winning that game. We lost the game in the collisions (once again...). The game was lost as soon as Pocock was out.

Yes, Williams could have done better. No one disputes that, but if you are going to get rid of Williams you have got to get rid of Deans as well. Maybe I just see it as black and white, but Deans didn't perform either.

Does anyone know how the process for the replacement for Williams will work? Does Deans pick the guy? Or does the ARU nominate him and Deans has a say?

I would imagine that, no matter the formal process, Deans will have a big say in who it is. There may be other assistant coach changes in the next month or so also. So Deans has the opportunity now to get the coaching staff he wants and if the rest of the coaches aren't changed it should be assumed that Deans believes they are up to the task.

After this round of changes, the next time there are changes in the Australian coaching structure it will be head coach first.

Probably, but Deans is signed for two more years - he isn't at the end of his contract yet.

It isn't a bad thing to change and "freshen" the coaching staff whilst keeping the head coach. Wayne Bennett has done it for years, so does Alex Ferguson.

It freshens up the program.

Genuine question, who was Ritchie's back up at RWC? Were they a dedicated 7?

No other top 8 team had a back up 7. This issue has a lot more made out of it than it should. Sure Deans deserves some criticism but not for this.
