I am sick of reading about the latest trial and tribulations of Jarryd Hayne (and Roxy Jacenko). I hate how the media feeds on it and pushes it out to us, making us think its news when it’s just their PR campaigns in full swing feeding the media machine. Hayne, go back to Parra and be gone from my news feed. I will be gutted if he signs with the Waratahs.

Hayne to rugby may actually be happening. He and his manager have requested a couple of meetings with the Australian, first June 30 and then today.

To the Tahs of course.

Quade must have lost that game of fifa. /s

still, this backline would look cool (even if it is a tahs backline)

9. Phipps
10. Cooper
11. Kellaway
12. Hayne
13. Folau
14. Robinson
15. Foley

NB: I don't want Quade anywhere near the tahs, only in the glorious red of Queensland. Nor do we need Hayne

^^^^^ nope, that was be just ripping up cash......
Hayne running off QC (Quade Cooper) in sky blue would be a nice look :)
And money well spent, thank you Mr Pulver.

If Hayne comes to our code and plays at stunning level like he did at Origin in the last years. I will hate him by the 2 minutes that he played for Fiji 7s.

But despite that he could help to the promotion of Super Rugby in OZ. The Media loves him, so Super Rugby would have more advertisement than the AFL lol

I'm in the opposite camp to most here. Signing Hayne would be great for the code, and I'd very much like to see him play for the Waratahs. There's no logic in complaining about what he costs and how that could be spent on other players if he's net profitable, which would be the only basis on which the ARU would sign him, since Bill Pulver is as tight as a gnat's aresehole.

I think you'd have to be a sky blue supporter to think that Groucho.

Most balanced observers understand that the Waratahs will be the recipients of the most benefit of the current ARU top up system, through no special treatment of the ARU.

There's limited cash available, the ARU needs to contract on the basis of what the Wallabies need, not leave that up to the discretion of each franchise equally. As a result, with NSW producing a large number of players, a large number will choose to be based in NSW, despite being able to earn their top up wherever they go in Australia.

That's the reality of the situation and what it needs to deliver.

Giving a player an ARU top up, when he's not eligible for the Wallabies, to play for the Waratahs who do receive the most benefit of the top up system would be flagrant favoritism for the Waratahs. Does anybody honestly believe if any other state brought forward the prospect of a player not eligible for the Wallabies, that the ARU would cough anything up for a top up?

You can't help where the Wallabies on Contracts choose to play, but helping one Super Rugby team, who has the most Wallabies, with money for a player not to help the national cause? Is the ARU going to establish a marquee fund for each franchise? What if the Force think bringing Aaron Sandilands across in the second row might be a huge marketing coup?

It is actually possible that the Tahs could sign him without an ARU top-up, isn't it?

This would be on the basis of third party sponsorships, and a Japanese contract to fill in the gaps.

He would be another Tuqiri for the Tahs, worth 5000 extra bums on seats every home game.

That's it wamberal.

Hayne could still get a tonne of money without the ARU chipping in a cent. That's the only way I'd like to see this happen.

Given all the issues floating around at the moment, Bill Pulver is not so dumb as to fork out ARU $$$ to pay for Jarryd Hayne....... I hope.

At best they can facilitate a third party deal, and a Japanese contract, which makes a lot of sense considering he won't be playing Rugby Championship.

Also note that Pulver was careful to point out that Hayne approached the ARU, which is important. It shows it's probably just a facade to bump up his asking price for the NRL/Top 14.

This probably needs to be reconsidered at the end of this season.

The Waratahs no longer have Beale and AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) and Palu hasn't had an ARU top up this year and has also finished with the Tahs. TPN is also probably gone at the end of the year.

Kepu, Hooper, Phipps, Foley, Horne, Folau are probably it as far as ARU top up contracts for the Tahs going into 2017.

I note this has nothing to do with Hayne. I'm completely against the ARU tipping in a cent for him to play Super Rugby regardless of which team he plays for.

Hayne is not the world's greatest footballer. If the ARU really want to recruit a high profile player to rugby union they could find someone who is eligible for the Wallabies.

There surely has to be an expectation that the media attention and hype surrounding Hayne will drop off substantially now that the NFL stint and short- lived crack at making the Fiji 7s side has ended.

But Braveheart that will probably swing back to the Waratahs too.

A few years ago you could have said similar with players like Waugh, Baxter, etc. moving on.

But then around the same time Phipps, Hooper and Folau became Waratahs after having ARU top ups.

Why? Because they wanted to come back to Sydney, not necessarily the Waratahs.

I don't see this as a fault in the system though. It benefits the most those who produce players, or build environments that players want to be in.

I guess so. Doesn't really feel like there are any Sydney born players who are around the Wallaby squad who are playing elsewhere because there wasn't opportunity at the Tahs and are likely to come back anytime soon.

It does feel like a bunch of topped up players are moving on at a similar time without an obvious group of locked in Wallabies to be given them. I wonder if we'll see a flatter structure where more players are getting less money because it isn't as obvious who to give the money to.

For 2017 yes. But that could change quick.

It's not inconceivable that some the following players could be capped (or already are), and topped up in the coming years and want to move back to Sydney:

Sam Carter
Sam Talakai
Jack Debreczeni
Nick Stirzaker
Reece Hodge
Caydern Neville
Jordy Reid
Kane Douglas

Then there's young Waratahs coming through.

I think right now QLD and NSW will always get the biggest concentration, as they produce the most talent. Hopefully this changes because other teams produce more local Wallabies.

It isn't some socialist utopia, the ARU just pay the better players in the Wobs a top up

"If" Hayne turns up in a side it will be down to third party deals and where he and his girlfriend want to live, not any ARU top up.

He can get a mil in the NRL, but loses his ability to play in Japan, France etc.
