Anybody have a view on James Stannard's game agin the Hurries? I thought he had an absolute cracker at 10. He seemed as the TV boys said, to have the ball on a string. He continually broke the line and offloaded really well. Didn't notice much in defence but I don't think he disgraced himself.

I don't know why he's not seen as an option at higher levels (other than 7's).

He will have to remain flyhalf after that performance, he looked like a gem to me. Good to see, because watching him in the 7s last year he was a genius.

I'm pretty sure he's dominating the force MOM thread.

He was an absolute standout. I always love watching enterprising halfbacks play with a little space. Josh Holmes is another who's open style makes him arguably a better back-line player. And obviously Shane Williams.

I've been critical of Ripia since he came back from injury and Stannard should with any justice be fitted into the XV either at halfback or flyhalf.

He also benefited from really solid service from Swanepoel, another back-up player. Look at the pristine ball he sent to Stannard before the try they scored off Stannard's inside ball.

Stannard showed he can be creative with quick ball and was very effective at times. But the Force back 5 smashed the Canes loosies and locks off the breakdown. There was very little resistance at the breakdown which provided good clean ball.

Stannard will be tested against more organised forward packs, but its always nice to see a 10 use the pill when its on offer.

Stannard played at Palmyra in the Perth club comp about 5 years ago when I was there. He was in the Force academy so wasn't always avail, but when he was he was used as a 5/8. Obviously at a very different standard but he was just a pleasure to watch, and play with. Deceptively strong and his ability to make defenders look stupid was unbelievable. All this was pre involvement in the top flight level. No doubt since being coached by very good coaches and being involved in 7's since, would've only improved his game and confidence. He was used as a half at Super level by both Force and Brumbies mainly due to his size but I'm pretty sure he weighs the same as JOC (James O'Connor)?

What I thought he really added on fri night was a little bit of indecision to the defence. He took the line on early and effectively which gave his outside men that crucial extra second whenever he did spread it wide. Ripias usual MO of aimlessly kicking the ball away or throwing a 2 man cut out has been very easy to read and has essentially served his outside backs up on a plate. Not too mention nullifying the involvement of the Forces best attacking player in JOC (James O'Connor).

I only saw parts of this game, but thought the halves in general worked really well together. I'd like to see J'OC running of one of Stannard's offloads.

Stanard might just be my new hero. I'm not going too go overboard too soon.
Too late but if he can continue on his form next week and with JOC (James O'Connor) back imagine JOC (James O'Connor) running lines off him!!!

Go the force!!!!

I like the fact that quite by accident we've found a bit of depth. I've gone on record as saying that I'm not the biggest fan of Sheehan starting and maybe Swanepoel might be the answer until Turner is ready again.

I don't think swanny was that good but another start will be good for him. We will find out this weekend anyway!

I thought the speed of Swanepoel's service was great. Sheehan is solid, tough and reliable but I think the back end of this year particularly he's been way too slow. The forwards won their battle against the Canes, Swanepoel got straight in there and cleared which had Stannard going forward.
