Serious? AWJ had to have stitches just above the eye for that. I think he's lucky but in away I'm pleased he will be there for the last two tests - best players playing and all that. Just need POC to be fit to keep things even. Can they fix a broken arm too?

I've only seen a couple of hazy replays, so this may sound somewhat silly, but did he actually connect?

Was AWJ asked what happened?

Direct hit...

"Judicial officer Nigel Hampton accepted Horwill was driven off balance with leg raised and didn't know AWJ was underneath him."

Watching the video again, that is an absolute load of BS....... Horwill got extremely lucky IMO

In a court of law that would have been not guilty.

There was enough reasonable doubt to justify the verdict.

Bollocks. this is not a court of law, thank god. or do you think he should have been arrested on the spot? On that argument no one would ever be suspended. Video evidence alone cannot meet the reasonable doubt standard of the court.

Bullshit excuses good enough for judiciary here it seems

I've been looking at vision:

While it looks bad the first time you look t it, the more you see it the more you realise it was simply an accident.

First, in the lead up to his foot coming down, note that Horwill is hunched over Hooper in such a way that he couldn't have seen his own feet or Jones' head for that matter. His face is planted in the middle of Hooper's back or on the other side of it.

Next, look at the moment that Horwill initiates lifting his foot (heal) to begin this apparent stamp - notice that Jones' head isn't even visible or anywhere near the same place as where Horwill's foot ends up coming down.

A fraction of a second after Horwill's heal starts to lift (about when his toe is leaving the ground), the Lions push through and as a result Jones' entire body (and head) lurches 18 inches forward. Note this happens AFTER Horwill initiates the foot lift.

Horwill's intent is to drive forward, but gets checked by the same surge that pushes Jones under his foot, and then A Jones finishes it off by also hitting the ruck and screwing Horwill around as he is lowering his foot. (All the time, Horwill is completely unable to see anything around his feet because Hooper is firmly in the way).

Study Guide:
(1) Look at where Jones' head is at the moment Horwill begins lifting his heal. Not even visible. No where near where the alleged stamp occurs.
(2) By the time Horwill's toes have lifted (100ms later?), Jones has been pushed through to where the eventual "stamp" happens. But Horwill can't see this.
(3) Notice the orientation of Horwill's head and the position of Hooper's body. He could not have seen anything of this.
(4) Notice the way that A Jones hits the ruck and the "screwing around" effect on Horwill as he is lowering his foot. Which accounts for the awkward way that Horwill puts his foot down.

All of that in the blink of an eye.

So IMO, although it looks bad on first viewing, the more you break it down the more obviously it becomes an accident.

Or seen from another point of view, it is bleeding obvious that in the heat of the moment, with one player already stetchered off, Horwill wanted to show how he could make his mark

Lucky break for the Wallabies. The judicial system is a lottery and that could easily have gone the other way and been a lengthy ban.
