Got out to the game of the round yesterday Oakhill v Auggies. Having read this thread and judging by ISA and other representative selections Auggies went in favorites and deservedly so. Ok .. That's where reading anything into schoolboy rugby selections and the reputation of the invincible Auggies ends...
Oakhill went out and physically intimidated and outmuscled an Auggies side who were never really in the game. At 32-7 with 8 mins to go Auggies scored a couple of late tries in the vain hope of getting at least a bonus point out of what was a thorough demo, option of a more credentialed side. Let me say that the score line could have been a lot worse with only 2 from 5 kicked and a missed penalty, a disallowed try that had everyone miffed and a dropped ball with the line open... Auggies were really looking at 50 points.
Auggies strength has been there run around them in the backs.... Well unfortunately they tried that only to be shut down and then went to the forwards where the Oakhill pack were physically bigger and more intimidating.
In terms of injury Auggies had one injury , the young winger and otherwise started at full strength so I do not see them saying they had people out as bing an excuse. Injuries to a few key players saw one leave the field in the first half with a couple of key players leaving in the second when the score was 20 something to 7. In my opinion it was a brutal encounter that Auggies had trouble handling and it showed.
Some standouts were Lloyd from Auggies and from Oakhill, Cotton, Linkekar, Goddard and Woodward were all solid.
It may make for an interesting Waratahs Shield final if they get there ...
