Ireland v Wallabies - Sunday 1 Dec, 2:10 AEDT

JRugby2

Bob Loudon (25)
The Irish team is 40% players who were born and raised elsewhere.
Surely the rise of Irish rugby coincided with the rise of import players.
Feel like this is an over hashed and somewhat redundant argument.

Ireland/ Scotland/ Whoever haven't broken any rules, and I personally don't think it should be the big ugly asterisk over their success that people seem to make it out to be. Almost all teams benefit from foreign born players. Not Ireland's fault NZ didn't rate Gibson Park and Aki, or Aus with Hansen - they put the work into these players and they got good over there.

No issue with the players that go over and earn their stripes via time in residence. EG qualifying through living in the country for 5 years or whatever. However the pricks that cherry pick overseas players based on these ridiculous grandparent rules, without any effort whatsoever in player time, effort, and development, can be jettisoned into the freakin’ sun.

Wallabies should win this one 6-5 according to my super computer that I built for this specific match alone. It’s also saying that it’ll be a really open and free flowing game.

There is some confidence here, I like it. However I like to take a risk averse approach so I’m putting last nights $50m Powerball winnings on the Wallabies with the 14.5pt start.

I’m having a chuckle suggesting a 32 point win to be clear! My real prediction is a 2 point win. I think Schmidt is looking to end the tour with a real statement.

He had all of super rugby season and has been in camp with the Wallabies for 4 months to push his claims. At no stage on the field has he stood up and shown there is a material difference between him and the other options.

The mere fact that they are giving Edmed an opportunity off the bench should tell you that Donaldson clearly isn’t doing enough with the chances he’s getting.

I don’t want to sink the boot into the bloke but I don’t really understand this narrative he has to be given a shot. Why? What has he actually done to earn it? Other than Lolesio apparently not being up to it.

Who knows - maybe this will be the making of him and he’ll go away and work on being a better player.
Joe said he is giving Edmed a run because he had always intended giving everyone a game on tour. Nothing to do with Donaldson’s form.

l like the fact that Schmidt is sticking with combinations but on a tour like this it’s a great opportunity to give players like Donaldson more game time to gain valuable experience. Playing only 20 odd minutes over 4 Tests as a playmaker is a wasted opportunity imo. Hard for him to push his case with such little game time. Donaldson had a hand in the match winning try against England and is kicking at over 90% this Test match season. And he has a huge boot which can be a point of difference.

Here’s hoping the boys can finish the tour and a very long season off on a high note with a morale boosting win over Ireland.

He is unlucky my friend because all he has had in actual game time this tour is about 5 minutes each game right at the end. Hard to show case your skills in 5 minutes. He did nothing wrong in those 5 minutes either. Noah has been falling off tackles has had so many opportunities and is still the same player he was when he began his first couple of tests. From memory Noah played most of the tests against
Because Donaldson had a really good year despite the revisionist history from people that didn't actually watch Force games. And he has all the raw tools required (something Noah doesn't)

Lolesio has had 30 tests and has shown no material improvement. It's completely reasonable to look at other options and think if only they had been given the countless chances he has then maybe we would have a 10 that could win a kicking duel or break the line once in a blue moon
Tom, thank you loving your comments as they are genuine and not biased. I also agree that Corey Toole is the unluckiest man in Rugby. I forgot about him when I posted that comment about Donaldson being unlucky. I think Donaldson has been unlucky because yes, he had a good super rugby season without the greatest team around him. Noah has always played with a good team at the Brumbies. All Donaldson has got this tour is 5 mins at the end of each game. Hardly enough to show what he is capable of. I have watched Edmed and Donaldson all through school in the CAS. Donaldson Waverley and Edmed Trinity. Again, I think Donaldson has the higher sealing though Edmed had a great NPC tournament in New Zealand this year. I hope Lolesio, has a great game, though at the moment it seems that Donaldson has I believe a higher ceiling. This is my opinion. Honestly, Fly half seems our weakest position now that JAS is now in the centers and doing well so far. Sort out fly half and also one more hard running powerful lock and we have the makings of a very good team. Again, would love to see Corey Toole given a shot.

Frost probably needs to work on his in close ball carrying too. He's a big body and has good footwork.
Frost and Williams will both do their fair share. Slipper doesn’t mind a few carries and of course Tupou will have a go.
Then at the back end of the game we will have Bell, LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto), AAA and whoever finishes in the back row.

100%
the grandparent rule is ridiculous.
Won’t harp on about it but

agree
You go put in your 5 years - is what it is
Grandma was born there and moved to Aus by age 7?
Kind of silly and should be reduced to parents. Anyhoo.
Ireland by 12 but expecting a good game. Keen to see this new Irish 10 play.

I'm hating this, I agree with you more and more!!!!!!!
Smashing welsh was great reveng
England win was glorious.
Scotland are way better than they get credit for. BIL will be Irish and Scottish. Wales will be lucky to have a player in the team.
if we can be close with Ireland it’s a huge win and shows we are competitive next year.
3/4 would be outright cause for champagne based off where we were under Eddie. God what a shambles!
Go the wobs

But a mug 3/4 full would be much more enjoyable than a mug 1/2 full, especially of the nector called "success"

It's the same rule that allows my grandchildren to obtain a UK passport and reap all of It's benefits, I have to like it...
