is there a reason why Fiji , Samoa and Tonga cant be included in the tri nation ?

pacific islander team's have proven from the last world cup that they have what it takes to compete with the 1st tier nations . why not include them ?

Yes because then it's not the Tri Nations :fishing

but yes as farva said I think money would be an issue

Many of their players are tied up in Europe and Japan. The RWC and the run up is the best time to see these teams at their best.

Do you really want to slip further down the IRB rankings? :fishing: I guess the difference in quality is a bit too much (when everyone fields their best XV). Also, not sure about the financial aspects.

While it saddens me to say it, it is because there is not enough revenue to be made there.
The cost would outweigh the revenue generated and that is probably the ultimate reason

bullshit , ............... entertaining rugby is what pull's in the money , pacific islander team's offer this in spade's .

Probably facility standards are lacking for broadcast purposes. I wonder if their best players would be made available (from European Rugby) for the duration? I guess Argentina's are from next year right?

There isn't really enough room in the calendar.

A number of their players wouldn't be released by the NH clubs.

Their infrastructure would require sizeable investment.

It would be rather one-sided wouldnt it? I mean yeh Samoa played great today, and all the island sides have their moments. But remember the Tri-nations has the 3 best sides in the world, the competition is very close. Ithink Argentina will struggle next year.

Plus most of the island nations players are european based, it would be a logistical nightmare trying to get all the players from their clubs.

Not to mention the lack of revenue incentive.

That being said, I think the Pacific Island sides need more opportunities to prove themselves against the top sides ( which in recent times they have been ie: Samoa's performances on the European end of year tour last year).

why wait around for four years to see them at full strength , including them in the tri nation will only benefit the viewer's , seeing guy's like rod davies cut in half is priceless .

Mate the test today was empty and there were GA tickets for 20$. Channel nine didn't even want to show the game live in half the country because no one would be watching. Tickets and tv rights pull in money. So no, not bullshit.

29K is not a bad crowd it is just made to look bad in a 85K seat stadium. ARU are idiots for playing the game there and not moving it to SFS or better yet take the game to the burbs and play at Townsville, Newcastle/Gosford or the Gong.

Full strength Wallaby sides hand out thrashings to the PI sides more often than not. Aus A and NZ A (sorry, JABs) routinely beat then in the PNC (Pacific Nations Cup). Despite the occasional upset, sadly they are not strong enough, the only way they come close to being strong enough is with their Euro players being available the whole time - which they are not.

people dont like watching these games , because in the past , it's alway's been one sided , and pacific islander's teams usually get whipped , like 100 to 7 . pacific islander's have improved , and should be given a chance to prove themselves , and if these island teams can prove that they can mix it with the best , i bet those empty seat's will be filled .

29K ticket sales are 29K ticket sales irrespective of which pitch the fixture is played at. 29K is paltry compared to tri-nations crowds hence why integrating Samoa would be a poor decision financially.

Expanded Four Nations Competition

In the wake of Samoa's massive upset of Australia, I feel it is time that the Pacific Island teams were finally playing in a top flight rugby competition.

With the expansion of the Tri Nations to Four Nations next year I for one will be interested to see how Argentina progress. However past that there is room for more expansion. I believe you can split this competition up into two divisions. Division One will obviously be the Four Nations of New Zealand, South Africa, Argentina and Australia. Then the second division will be the Pacific Nations Cup teams of Japan, Fiji, Samoa and Tonga. The format will be in the fashion that the Four Nations will take place: 6 games for each team, i.e. everyone plays each other twice home and away. At the end of it the lowest ranked team from Division One plays the highest ranked team from Division Two in a play-off for who is promoted and relegated. This can be done in a home and away leg tie with an aggregate score.

I feel this format will give the likes of Samoa the opportunity to stake their claim to play top flight rugby on a regular basis, and hence improve the standard of their rugby as a whole. The only problem would be enabling all of their players to be eligible for matches, which can be sorted out in conjuction with the Argentina have done so.

What do you guys think?

Im sure the Pacific Islanders if they could would play anywhere in either Australia or NZ and gain a lot of support. Somewhat like the British Isles touring Australia in which the Brits gained a huge amont of support. Better yet the Pacific Island nations combined at full strength could put forth a belter of a side.
