If players are getting cold, why aren't they wearing warmer gear?

Does that include any rocket science?
OK, So now that I have established that you are not really interested in cold weather training for elite athletes, please excuse me I am off to talk to some grown ups.

I am just a little sceptical about your 4 day claim, is all. If you have something directly published on that then I am interested.

I am sure if you search you will find relevant peer reviewed scientific publications.
Growing up above 1400mts and cross country skiing for over 40 years, I could speak directly from personal experience about cold and altitude training, however it would be shot down as subjective and not directly relevant to rugby or this thread.

I wore Skins when playing in Wales, Worked a treat to keep you warm but after running around for 40min it got bloody hot and uncomfortable...And took them off after 1/2 time.

That high wind and rain would not have helped at all the other night

Legend has it that NZ and Wellington fullback Allan Hewson used to wear stockings/pantyhose to keep warm when it .

My mate says he (Hewson) came in for some grief over itback in the day (late 70's). This is the same mate who likes the cold and wet of Athletic park. (See my post on the Wobs vs Scotland game - "Weak as p****")

You can only imagine the words he used to describe Mr Hewson's choice of undergarments. Made worse by the fact that he was a back.

Well, you've come with a lot of material about home-and-away advantage that is irrelevant to the thread. But nothing that supports your 4-day acclimatisation claim...

No Hewson wore gloves and copped grief for that, a lot wore them after he did though.

Hewson wore pantyhose from time to time,he sufferered from the cold big time.Suprisingly although I weighed less than him,I never suffered like him(often played on the same day in the same conditions without much discomfort--whereas Hewie had all sorts of problems)

Think that applying more sports science isn't the answer for once in a blue moon conditions. Probably smarter to have a second, warmer alternate uniform when the forecast says it's going to be cold.

These Wallabies are just soft.
Just quit it with this, no one can help shivering once their body temperature drops.

And the sports science line is pretty pointless as well, there is no point making the players cold in advance when I wouldn't even trust our weather forecasters to know 4 days out whether it is going to be a freezing day in Brisbane or just a cold one.

As someone else tried to point out, it's actually logically better to have players whose internal thermostats are adapted (as far as can be) to playing in Samoa, given how hard it is to cool down, and just give them more clothes for cold days...

so you cant wear full length pants due to the rules, but can you wear skins above the knee shorts, skins socks and then require bandages for both knees?

just wear heaps of bandages to keep warm

LOL So the rumours have been confirmed (gaggerland style).

Is there any way we can work this into our "witty banter" for the Troup at the upcoming Bled cup matches?

I know we shouldn't play the man, and by all accounts Hewie is a decent sort of fella but this surely is not a proud moment for the NZRT.

(to the tune of Monty Python's "The Lumberjack Song")

Hewie's an All Black and he's not gay.
He played fullback and he did okay.

He liked to wear tight pantyhose,
And you know what that means.
He wished he'd been more manly,
Just like young Robbie Deans!
