Reg personally I thought CFS was a bit more prominent today than Hunt who I thought was very quiet. I think if there was a strong showing from a NSW 13, they would have been better than both though.

Thought Sef was immense in the scrum and the entire rising back row was very good.

Interesting, I thought CFS was pretty quiet. I wanted more out of him, but am not glued to my opinion by any means.

I noticed 2 good runs and 2 good hits where all I recall of ht was the support line for a try and struggling to beat any defenders. I was not overly thrilled with CFS either.

well, put your thoughts here and I can throw together a blog post and we can promote it through the sites.

15 Junior Laolifi (Brisbane)
14 Harry Jones (Sydney)
13 Karmichael Hunt (Brisbane)
12 Tom Hill (Rays)
11 Alex Gibbon (Brisbane)
10 Jono Lance (NSW Country)
9 Ben Meehan (Rising)
8 Angus Cottrell (Spirit)
7 Liam Gill (Brisbane)
6 Dave Dennis (Stars)
5 Ned Hanigan (NSW Country)
4 Steve Cummins (Rising)
3 Sef Fa'agase (QLD Country)
2 James Hanson (Stars)
1 Haydn Hirsimaki (QLD Country)

Give me thoughts and alternatives?

Go for it rugby Reg....end of the day publishing a view on best players a good start - comments can debate merits of it.

Ps best if one person posts there team of the week every week as starting point for debate and end of the day reckon you are qualified as much as anyone if you are up for it.

I missed the 2nd half of the Country game but i was pretty impressed by Izaia Perese, i thought he offered more then Alex Gibbon based off first half performance.

Only saw three games, City v Spirit, Rams v Eagles and Qld Country v Rising, but I wouldn't argue with any of the nominated players from those games. Probably only Debreczini and Colby from today's game would challenge the nominated players.

Great job on NRC team of the week Reg - helps to see who are the fringe super rugby performers performing well as well as who are the up and coming club rugby players (who will challenge for heartlands tour spots)....as now got some new names not heard of to look out for in games as well.

Be great as well if NRC franchise sites posted this on their own sites as well - will help create wider interest....ie good reusable content to help promote / market interest....maybe even post on rugby.com.au

Only suggestion for next one Reg is suggest having in brackets number of times player been selected for team of the week as be interesting when get to end and selections for Heartland team who has been the consistent performers.

More photogenic presenters of the shield. I fear we could be driving away potential female support.

Remember that many of the Team of the Week will be Contracted Players and therefore unavailable for the Oz Barbars to take on the NZ Heartland Team.

There is a Oz Barbars Watch thread to record thoughts as to who is deserving of a gig in the Barbars.

Have not forgotten - either way useful info....and for hopefully we might have a few non contracted players who consistently are the top performers...

This headline about Quade whilst 'way off the mark' would have attracted a few readers, these are the sorts of articles this competition needs to be constantly churned out..

As a lover of the NRC it tears my heart so see some of the poor promotion. Social media reach is so broad and so easy to use that surely there can be more done from ARU, Waratahs, etc....

While I could go on all day about promotion (I'd volunteer myself to do it for free if I wasn't in studying) it has to be the number 1 objective going forward. The rugby and talent is there I believe, now it just needs the support.

Just read match report that crowd for stars vs qld country game 300-400

Cripes disgraceful for a entertaining game..

But reality is business model for stars is wrong as this is a short form competition and hence needs strong links to other stronger brands to get audience....

Which is not just one shute shield side! As other partner - Balmain subbies is irrelevant as 3rd tier..

Seems needs a few more business minded people in professional rugby and less ex players as this is just plain dumb....

Model for rams, rays and nsw country has wider connection with audiences given multiple shute shields sides association for rays/rams whilst country will win heart and minds of those of country origin and/or country nsw....
But WTF is Waratahs support for NRC on this....and then there is ARU - social media anyone - cripes...get with the real world....rugby only became professional couple of decades ago but cripes definitively shows still run by amateurs...

But despite above some positives............(to balance the ledger)

Live stream of all games and available in one spot via foxsports good thing (fox sports financial support important so yes going to there website to watch games for nominal charge for live games and free replays is fantastic)...

Foxsports doing Monday night rundown on NRC......get behind it guys and gals who have foxsports Foxtel subscription....

Lot of us on here who are NRC fans see value of quality of entertaining product and seeing next future potential super rugby / wallabies players unearthed in this competition.........the rule changes are fantastic as I get criticism on defence for stars and qld country game but sometimes wonder people miss the attacking quality plays that have unfolded as was equally some very good tries scored for that game by attacking quality.....

The crowd for Thursday night was clearly dismal. Perhaps it is a Sydney thing.

The match between two teams that are allegedly well supported by multiple clubs on a beautiful Sydney Saturday drew about 1000 people.

Greater Sydney Rams is a franchise of the people supposedly leveraging off the combined supporter and player base from West Harbour, Eastwood, Penrith, Parramatta, and Southern Districts were playing the NSW Country Eagles with the supported base from Eastern Suburbs, Randwick and anyone that supports NSW Country.

Even the Rays Franchise (drawing of Norths, Manly, Gordon and Warringah) at home against the Stars drew less than a Shute Shield derby between Manly and Warringah.

Poor crowds are not just a Sydney Uni/Balmain/Sydney Stars phenomena. The Sydney public seem to be avoiding any NRC games. Will they ever come? It is built.

Agree HJ Sydney market always tougher to crack as unlike Melbourne and QLD attending football matches not as much as part of psyche (lived in Melbourne for many years and amazed how at couple of big companies worked for that attending a game of footy (AFL) part of the culture..

But that is why you highlight they need to be commercially savvy....
AFL is very much the leader here as got a lot of connections in AFL head office and their professionalism in research and marketing is second to none...

Rugby poor cousin so not much resources to invest in building the future so hence why key strategic appointments critical at ARU head office....

Also attracting a James Packer type to invest in rugby would not go astray (opportunity lost with his Souths investment as given went to Cranbrook....rugby school....was more commercial interests with Casino's / crown driving that investment decision one suspects as dont' see JP as leagie
