That was a wonderful win. It had flaws in it, and the Canes had more in their play, but who cares?

I thought the Brumbies were done and dusted when the Canes scored 3 tries in 22 minutes to go 9 points ahead, but they regrouped and 2 minutes later they started putting on 3 tries themselves - in 15 minutes.

What a turnaround.

There was some wonderful rugby played by the visitors in that time but the home team would have regretted how they played in the last 25 minutes at the beginning of which they were in front. They tried to play too much rugby in the wrong territory instead of kicking for the corners. Leaving 9 points on the park with missed goal kicks did not help either.

Given where they come from both teams were used to the conditions; so the Canes had no excuse to turn over the ball at the ruck or maul and in general play 19 times compared to 7 for the Brumbies.

I thought that scrummie TJP was the best for the Canes though his passing deteriorated just when the Canes needed accuracy. His zip-zip try was a thing of rugby beauty. Savea looked good also. The injury to Jane might have been influential in the result, but after their own player misadventure recently the Brumbies will be saying: cry me a river.

After some poor kicking and missing too many tackles the Brumbies kicking improved and they took all the right options when a chance was presented in the money moments of the game.

White settled down well after some poor box kicking early, and Hooper was the MOTM in my eyes. It's just as well he played so well for other parts of the game because he missed a couple of key tackles when TJP scored his try just after oranges. Hooper's position was too narrow and he should have been closer to Mowen to his right when TJP ran around his corner, and in an earlier phase he got palmed off by Savea.

The eye opener for me was 10. Zack Holmes. I have seen him play like that in club rugby but to do it at a higher level gave me me a real buzz.

That game will look very good on his CV and if keeps playing like that I don't think he will be 3rd string anywhere after his contract expires. In particular, the Force will be wanting him to come home to Perth.

Hooper should be fine.

If Morahan got nothing neither should Hooper... And Morahan's was a cardable offence...

Hooper's tackle was only just bad enough to be a penalized offence...

I thought he might've got a yellow, but it certain ly doesn't warrant any further sanction...
You're probably right about Hooper but I would still be a little worried it is not as cut and dried as Morahan's. I think he did lift him and Vito wasn't twisting around like Williams was.

Maybe, maybe not. Well be a shame if we don't get to see them head to head next week...

SANZAR NEWS RELEASE

Michael Hooper Cited following Super Rugby Match Hurricanes v Brumbies

Michael Hooper of the Brumbies has been cited for alleged foul play during a Super Rugby match at the weekend.

Hooper is alleged to have contravened Law 10.4 (j) Lifting a Player from the ground and either dropping or driving that Player’s head and/or upper body into the ground whilst the Player’s feet are off the ground, when he lifted Hurricanes player Victor Vito in a tackle and brought him down so his upper body hit the ground while his legs were still in the air. The incident occurred in the 48 th Minute of the match between the Hurricanes and Brumbies at Westpac Stadium in Wellington on Friday 18 th May.

The Referee for the Match: Mark Lawrence penalised Hooper on the field for the incident.

Upon further review of the match footage the Citing Commissioner deemed in his opinion the incident had met the Red Card threshold for foul play.

The Citing is to be considered in the first instance by SANZAR Duty Judicial Officer Mike Heron.

Thanks Lee your comments on the positives of the game and the enjoyment factor is appreciated,

Too many have concentrated on the flaws and negatives and very little on what was good about the horses. Where do the brumbies play the reds net week

Holmes proved to be an excellent recruitment for the Brumbies.
IMHO, many of the young Brumbies have improved out of sight, and will be possibly targeted by other franchises. However, many of them are playing great rugby because the current Brumbies style of play allows them to do so - e.g. they are benefiting from the synergy created by a group where everyone plays hard & for each other. It may be different to show how good you are if you play in a team where individual play is preferred, and there is no synergy. That may happen to Hooper next year.

Great result for the Brumbies and also a good one for the Reds in terms of moving up the overall ladder. Still a few things for the Brumbies to work on but there's nothing wrong with winning and having some areas to work on to keep everyone focused.

The thing I liked about the win was that the Brumbies stuck to their game plan, despite at times executing it pretty badly, they had the discipline and belief to keep at it.

They are also so very effective in the red zone.

Holmes did OK, but with little of the Brumbies' width of the last few weeks. I guess that may have been more of the game plan (to keep it close to the pigs) He runs well at contact, but without that width option he will be easy to shut down after a week or twos video highlights.

Nic White showed why he is near the form 9 in aus, a good good player, a pest, great pass and kicks it bloody miles - he did miss a few tackles as did Hooper who looks to me like Aus's next George Smith. Great with ball in hand, but will never get the quantity of turnovers Gill is getting due to the way the Brumbies play, that said he ain't shabby either. (the Reds chopping low tackles gives Gill far more opportunities to attack the ball)

Alexander got bashed about at scrum time, their locks have wonderful workrates and mobility.

I can also see Tomane and Ioane offering serious threat out wide for Aus later this year

Tomane's getting better with every game as you would expect.

Australia's outside back stocks are looking swell at the moment. I think our depth in every position is the best it has been in a long time.

So the calls for Bernie Larkham to join the wallabies coaching ranks begins? After the first pen i thought the brums were going to do was smash it up tight. But the backs played there part and holmes wasn't out of place.

Thought Holmes did very well for his first outing. He must have been under a lot of pressure but handles himself well.
Agree with Tomane getting better every game. Looking very threatening indeed. Future wallaby if he continues this way.

Agree Alexander had a hard time in the scrum. Makes me think Kepu/Palmer is def needed in the wallabies.

To be fair to Alexander, he was involved in some dominant scrummaging last night when he switched to tighthead...

I would think that Murphy and Sio will be putting a lot of pressure on him in the future...

No way he'll get off that. Went past horizontal and didn't release or attempt to safely lower him.

The SANZAR lottery continues...

It was no worse than Morahan's tackle last week on SBW which was an absolute farce...
