Every game in the pool stage is a must win for us at the moment. We need to win all the pool matches and also hope that England are beaten by either France (possible) or Russia (unlikely).

The way we played in Tokyo, beating Russia will be a challenge.

^^^^^^ "must win" in that you've got England first up so lose that & you're screwed. A bit like we're screwd if we lose to Sethfricka in that we're not so far ahead of England that we can't be caught if they first beat you.

Would have been nice to see England draw Fiji or the Kiwis from second in the pool. Hard to see us making up too many points from here

Cup QF 1 AUS v USA
Pama Fou opens the AUS account after a minute, Converted. AUS 7 USA 0
Speedster Perry Baker scores a runaway try for USA. Converted from the sideline. 7 All draw at Oranges.

Light Rain and it looks a little cold.

Maka Unife breaks out for a USA meat pie. Converted. USA 14 AUS 7. 2:36 left.
Not looking good for AUS.
Perry Baker kicks ball dead and it is a AUS 5 metre attacking scrum with < 1 minute to go,
Pama Fou knocks it on. We are cactus.

To make Rio, looks like we are off to the Oceania Qualifying tournament.

Final Score USA 14 AUS 7

USA to Cup Semi Final
AUS is playing for pride in the cutlery division of the tournament.

NZ qualified for Rio. England have a chance to build on their lead against the Canadians in the 3rd quarter final.

Up first though, Fiji v South Africa. Big big game.

QF2 The Power vs The Magic (SAF v FIJ)

Pity it is raining, but should be a blinder of a game.

Like a chess match but Semi Kunitani finally scores, converted. FIJ 7 SAF 0 - 1 minute left to oranges.
Oranges: FIJ 7 SAF 0

This is Titanic. FIJ take a penalty kick to lead by 10 - 0. 4:46 left.
Outstanding defence from FIJ, holding the SAF attack up over the line, then winning ruck turnover penalty. 2:00 left.
Rawaca gets meat to seal the deal for Fiji with < 1 min left. Kick hits posts but it doesn't matter. Only 10 sec left.
Final Score is FIJ 15 SAF 0

FIJ to Cup SF. - Against USA.

SAF to join us in the cutlery division.

Cup QF 3: CAN vs ENG

C'mon Canada.
Meat pie for Harry Jones off a quick tap. Converted. CAN 7 ENG 0 - 1:53 until oranges.
As the Soap Dodgers do so often, they score after the siren to tie the game up.
Oranges: 7-7
3 minutes left, No change to the score but you feel that the Soap Dodgers are going to score soon to win this match.
1:30 minutes, and Dan Norton gets meat and chopsticks for the Soapies. ENG 14 CAN 7.
30 seconds left. Bugger.

Full Time: ENG 14 CAN 7

ENG to take on NZL in the Cup SF

Canada to the Cutlery Division with SCO.

ENG probably guaranteed the 4th qualifying slot for Rio,

QF 4. NZL vs SCO

Rain seems to have lifted. Playing surface still rather slippery looking.

3:30 left - Meat and Chopsticks for SCO after plenty of phase pressire from the Single Malts. DJ Forbes missed a tackle. Is his time up?
SCO 7 NZL 0
The Ioane Kid replies with the first meat pie for the Darkness. Conversion misses from out wide. SCO 7 NZL 5 - 33 seconds left to oranges.
Oranges: SCO 7 - NZL 5. The local crowd are happy. NZL Coach, Stitch, is not.

Webber cooks up a meat pie out wide. Conversion misses. NZL 10 SCO 7 - 4:40 left
1:40 left and it is NZL attacking 5 m scrum. Try coming up. Yes, but not from the scrum.
Possible that the quick lineout throw in was dodgy but Sir said it was OK, so points stand.

Final Score: NZL 17 SCO 7

NZL vs Soap Dodgers in the Cup SF.

Single Malts to take on the Canucks in the cutlery division.

For the life of me, I just cannot see that our new 7s coach has improved our team in any meaningful way. We look as 'second tier' or worse today as we have for years.

Our squad looks all wrong - lacking anything like enough mobility, pace and consistent skills under pressure.

If I was Pulver I'd be very inclined to opt for a radical new beginning as we did so fruitfully with our new women's 7s team and system.

As we are (in the mens' game at least) we appear to be on a road to nowhere expect perpetual national disappointment.

Mind you, this is the ARU at work. We'll likely die waiting.

As the Soap Dodgers do so often, they score after the siren to tie the game up.

That is one of the worst mistakes I've ever seen from a video review. The English player clearly knocked the ball on. I don't know how the ref could have seen it otherwise. Terrible decision and one that has ended up contributing to an English victory that has basically ended our chances of automatic qualification.

Hugh Jarse

Rocky Elsom (76)
Disagree. Performance in Japan, backed up by losing to USA tonight knackered us, Olympics qualification wise.

Worst mistake by video review? No way. That honour must belong to the own try decision in the NRC last year.

Looks like the Aus qualification options are now Oceania or the repechage.

Y'know what? It was an advantage to play the last game of the round robin in Pools A and B.

The opposition seeds for the quarters were known. Thus England, by remaining 3 points short of Australia's differential, locked in Canada for their QF.

Having said that, I'd guess the Aussies would prefer Fiji or England over SA or NZ at the pointy end. But it mattered not when they lost to USA.

AB7s playing their best game of the tourney in the final so far, dominating possession against Fiji. Unlucky not to get a try (which was somewhat oddly ruled a double movement, UK comm was bemused) and a penalty try maybe for a high tackle as Vaka was sprinting towards the corner. 12-5 HT

Fiji turning on the heat after HT, good continuity and two tries in quick succession. 19-12 Fiji

Rough YC against Curry for a supposedly late charge, and Fiji score again. 24-12

Curry gets one back after a break and kick and chase. 50/50 decision on the TV referral but he gives it. 24-17. Last chance saloon

Good counter ruck by Fiji as 4 players or so ruck Forbes off the ball, 24-17 Fiji final score
