What about that lineout throw in that video posted above!!!!!! Could have almost been taken by the fullback...

Foley lucky to not be cited as well based on his tackle on Digby late in the game. QC (Quade Cooper) should probably have a week or two based on what I saw in the replay today (at the ground it looked bad mainly due to Barnes not getting up, but couldn't really tell as it was pretty far away).

Saw an interview with Link on the news tonight.

"Looked like a ball and all tackle to me with the shoulder making contact with the chest"

The Reds must have some footage that none of us have seen, oh except EmuArse!

But, if I take this one photo:

It not only proves that the tackle wasn't high, but Quade is nowhere to be seen!

Maybe Quade can join the Brumbies sitting in the stands next week then???

It is crazy that the extent of the injury affects the suspension. The same tackles where one player was lucky to escape injury and a second where the player doesn't get the same penalty.

So broken.

Penalties are often a function of the damage done. Getting drunk and frightening a pedestrian attracts a lesser sentence than getting drunk and killing them.

Sorry, in my view BB was at a deep squat at impact and QC (Quade Cooper) came in at a height that would have been fine on anyone other than BB in a squat or Peter Dinklage at full stretch.

Looking at the cooler and foley tackles again I fail to see much difference apart from the tackled player going off for coopers one.

Impact for cooper appeared to start at or below the shoulders. Impact for foley one was forearm to face.

Why is one tackle considered so much worse than the other?

Yes I'm well aware, my posts were in reply to those on the previous page who were talking about Barnes history with head knocks..

The fact that Barnes was taken off shouldn't be an influencing factor due to the the fact that some players are more susceptible to been knocked out/concussed and barnes is one of those.. If its a head high, its a head high.. Whether the player got up and walked off or was removed from the ground on a stretcher should come into the equation.. But no doubt it will

I agree with you. I thought your intimation was that it was somehow Barnes fault that the tackle was carded and cited. Apologies!

Clearly whether or not Barnes is susceptible to head knocks is irrelevant to whether the tackle was high and dangerous or not.

We (being Reds) have been dudded a few times over the years by the judicial officer in charge of this one. (I believe it is Paul Tully) Not to say Paul Tully is against Qld more that he rules very much by the book and tends not to show his home state very little loyalty. IMO other countries quite often get favourable decisions whether by chance or design.

As such I would not expect the media chatter about this to positively influence the outcome for Quade.

Yes Link is entitled to his opinion and to be honest the media would just but like a dog at a bone if he doesnt answer the question, but I certainly wouldnt want to piss the JO off in this instance.

There is no doubt it was a nasty tackle, and was high. It deserved a yellow card, but there is a real issue with consistency. You see many tackles like this not yellowed and not cited (see the post from earlier about the Stormers player not even being cited for a close line style tackle).

To me, the tackle looked reckless more than anything. Quade's tackling technique is far from traditional and you see him going in for the ball a lot more than just trying to stop the player. As he comes up to Barnes he makes the swinging arm motion that arguably wouldn't have got Barnes any higher than the shoulder if Barnes hadn't of stepped back inside, causing his body position to dip slightly.

Now this isn't Barnes' fault obviously, and doesn't change the fact that it was a dangerous tackle. But I think it shows a lack of intent. So what is an appropriate punishment? In all honesty it probably deserves a week, but who could predict what the judiciary will do? They have been all over the place this season with lengths of suspension. I thought Horne's tackle was worse than Ioane's, yet Horne got a week and Ioane got five. Even taking into the account Horne's clean history (and Ioane's previous record) five times the penalty is absurd.

There are so many factors to take into account according to the rules, I really have no idea and would not be surprised if he gets off or gets five weeks.
