Grasping at straws there, referencing League. Wouldn't expect much else from a club who records their crowd atmosphere, be if it was only "once".

Please, there is a reason why we have the biggest stadium in Australia, which has hosted numerous football codes, which huge attendances. Something you could only dream about.

When I go Rugby Games mate I like to see the player on the Field,

It is equally the reds "fault" as it is the ARUs, as link said they "will continue to make financially responsible decisions", between the lines it says, Genia got an uograde, Quades getting an upgrade and even with a higher salary cap, that's gonna take up a 1/5 of our payments. If you think as much as QLD would love Higgers to stay they didn't number crunch and look at the other players they have and decide he wasn't worth greater investment, your just trying to blame someone else.

It's not a perfect situation, the ARU & the RUPA (who let's not forget are balls deep in this as well) are not forcing anyone's hand, Higgers ARU top up isn't bigger because he s moving teams, the simple fact here is the rebels believe that Higgers is worth more to them than the reds do.

WJ - just to be clear - I was not trying to 'blame' the ARU, merely highlighting how their (important) part plays out in the overall process and that no one yet quite knows how Robbie and Nuci decide on what 'top up' level is offered.

Side point: Whilst the ARU intends to only offer 32 'top up' contracts this year, I don't believe we know if the total $s derived from this or for this are capped or not.

^^^^ thanks mate, I was talking about the MCG and painting a rectangle inside a oval. Still 50m away before the 1st row.

Anyways, higgers has his reason and dollars at 25 year old. He didn't want to leave the reds but a better deal for him came along. I'm sure his heart will always be red and he just want to play rugby.

I thought the whole point of negotiating contracts midway through the season was because that lines up with UK and French contracting for the next NH season and not because that is when the ARU decides to do it. Players and managers want to do it then so that they can use that as a bargaining chip, like Ioane seems to enjoy doing with Japan, or so that if an offer is shithouse they have somewhere else to go.

one bone of contention with that statement is that their is a major difference between assessing a players value and been in a position to pay the player his true market value.

The Reds may have well assessed Higgers to be worth just as much as what the Rebels did, but the Rebels are in a better position to pay Higgers that assessed value.

Well the Rebels for one are a private franchise, not operated by their state/provincial union, there is a memorandum of understanding between the two. If you had no idea, you think they are one and the same.

Hope this is not a pot shot at our union?

No i wasn't having a dig at Victorian Rugby, and I am well aware of the organisational differences in Victoria......

If anything i was defending the Rebels who would be disadvantaged if a system were implemented where players are paid a proportion of a clubs revenue. Since Vic Rugby and the Rebels are two separate entities, the Rebels will immediately be afforded a lower budget to work within compared to other provinces.

Don't take things so personally...

Melbourne do what they do best, and much rather buy Premierships (Top Players) instead of doing the Hard Yards 1st up..... NRL and UNION down south is like playing Cricket in the USA, They need to get the big names so they get bums on seats... Its a Money driven state for sport... Look at the State of Origin, why the fuck would the played the 1st game there, Because the NRL got a good chunk of cash to play there Melbourne..... Beside that they dont give a shit unless it's AFL.....

There I said it :p

Also Higgers can open up more Cafe's there

Ignorant parochialism at its best.

No worries.

Can't help it, that's my mentality towards my state & country with this game.

But this notion that somehow established players from other provinces are off limits is rubbish. Higgers went to Melbourne to chase the cash. He would have gone to France before staying in Queensland. When someone wants to chase the dollar they will. Even with no salary cap the Reds could not afford to hold onto him.
.

I beg to differ most strongly.

For the record, Gary himself hasn't yet announced where he's going next year.

Really? Thought that had been settled a month or so ago.

I get that Reds fans are annoyed, but you really need to stop bashing the Rebels. They're trying to build the best team they can, not piss in the punch at your party. The Waratahs signed Kurtley as a school boy, brought him through the system, suffered his growing pains, saw him become a world-class 15 and then had him walk away almost straight away. That's the reality of professional sports.
;)

And as a Tahs supporter I am glad to hear this from you. Considering the bitching that went on when the Kurtley signing was anouncing.

suckerforred, when did you become a Stormers supporter? I'm sure you had a little red Koala in your profile previously. Or am I confused?

I suppose suckerforstormers doesn't have same ring....

Yes, well, if you read my signature line you will learn that some times I shoot my mouth off and make bets that I probably really shouldn't. I always, however, always pay up on my bets. So I am currently a 'Reds supporter in Stormers disguise'.

One of these silly bets, made in a rush of over confidence after the Bris Bled last year, means that I will be wearing an AB's jersey to the Bled this year. But, I also have a plan that will mean that the gambler to whom I lost this particular bet will be perhaps be happy not to make another bet with me.

Ah, been there. I had to wear a Saffa jumper for all of the 1996 season as a result of a bet (that the Wallabies would finish higher than the Saffa's at the 95 RWC...yes, yes, I know...).

I wish I could say I got this particular fellow back, but alas, no. I hope you have better luck!
