brogan off early? Were you the bloke that tried to argue against Randwick's underdog status today? Thats as sensible as leaving the porch light on in case Harold Holt turns up.
Nice work today by the Ref. Not. Manly had a player binned for collapsing a maul on the try line when we were on the attack - same thing in the second half except Wicks were the offenders - this time the Ref awards a penalty try for Manly as well as a yellow card. That about sums that Ref up. He should be refereeing 2nds next week. No consistency and only one eye open.
Manly went well and I will be pleased to see them win the Comp.
Losing both our centres within the first 2 minutes wasn't helpful.
We finished with our Colts Hooker playing inside centre as well as having 2 players in the bin at once.
In the (dire) circumstances, thought we battled away well and were competitive for a long way.
Sorry Macca but a 48 - 0 loss does not represent being "competitive for a long way". You score zero points and they put nearly 50 on you.
Far point - the score did blow out though & there were a lot of soft tries when the guys were in the bin. Manly's first three tries came after consecutive penalties against Randwick.Sorry Macca but a 48 - 0 loss does not represent being "competitive for a long way". Disruption disruption disruption.
Even the final team sheets were being changed at the first whistle and at one point the photographer was almost drafted on the wing for fourths.
The pleasing thing about fourths is that despite the draftees and out of position players everyone had a crack and certainly gave the manly coach a fright judging by the shrill calls from the trees.
Thirds was much the same as was seconds but as Mr Beat alluded to earlier, Manly's defence was very good, and that coupled with their organisational standard enabled them to take each game. Wicks tried hard and a few mentions in despatchs should include Kaspereck and Taighe in two's , Kelly and Kite in threes and O'Harra in fours.
First grade were up against it from the start and losing their already disrupted midfield early did not help defence lines against a very organised set of backs. The manly winger in particular caused more problems than a referee.
The Nil hurts but lessons will be carried into the future and a few more men will be able to say 'I played first grade' as long as no score is mentioned.
Wicks are giving away too many penalties at the breakdown and offside.
They will need to address this if they want to have a serious crack in the next few games.

If true that is a shame, I was looking forward to seeing how Kellaway handled grade given he now appears to have a Tahs contact. Northam showed him how it's done - on the paddock. So Kelly's last hurrah was to rest his 'injured' GPS babe's Horwitz, Deegan and Kellaway. Though they were not injured. Because he knew Randwick had no chance he didn't want to risk an injury to them. I know how the other players felt about this -livid ! What does this tell you about this club and how it favours players. Good riddance to Kelly and hopefully we can have a fair and equitable selection process next year based on performance and not school.

Unfortunately at all levels of Rugby you are going to have coaches who favour some players over others. This can be based on a number of different variables in the case in point you refer to being previous association. By the same vein you could liken it to Steve Hoiles inclusion in the waratah set up this year under his former premiership randwick winning coach Michael Chieka. Would he have been included under another coach probably not in reality. But similar to the situation you mention I would argue that Hoilesy has been a superb addition and adds heaps of value to the waratahs (hope he goes further to proving my point tonight).
In the case of Kelly I think you could hardly argue with the selections of Kellaway, Deegan, Horwitz over others. These are young promising guys who 2 are now contracted to the Waratahs.
Has Kelly brought alot of guys to the club from GPS.YES. are they good promising players . absolutely. Like it or not the GPS comp is a powerful rugby nursery (I attended a CAS school)
Probably the one that I have been a bit disillusioned with has been Harry at half but seriously that would be the only one.
Whoever the new coach is not everyone is going to be happy with the selections made.
Is Kelly the greatest coach of all time, no. Have I agreed with all his selection . no. Is the club in a much better place then when he arrived.. Yes and by a long way.
I don't disagree Kellaway is a class player and Deegan is developing. Horewitz has been good in one game all season and is generally regarded as a shirker who doesnt get involved particularly in defence. can't understand all the hype about him and have to put his waratah contract down to other factors. His value add is he trains well but on the paddock very average. There are several better young 10s , Ayoub and the guy from SDS to name 2. There are also better players internally for 10.
One of this however is relevant to resting these players and sends a clear message to the rest. As you know the player exodus is revving up.. @ dave beat -yes this is true.
Horwitz hasnt played alot of footy for Randwick this year with the 20's etc. There have been a few used in his absence and I would say confidentally none have made the position their own. Who internally is clearly better? I dont think he is a Wallaby in waiting but he was solid last year 1 year out of school.
humour me Stoey what are "the other factors" that would have Michael Chieka sign him??
In regards to the relevance my post was in response to your comments re " Good riddance to Kelly and hopefully we can have a fair and equitable selection process next year based on performance and not school."
I dont know anything about the players rested so havent commented
Did not get to the first grade game on sat and looks like the squads struggled again. Wicks have the 3rd last attack stats in the whole comp. Wouldn't expect that. Lets hope the kids can bring it home...Disruption disruption disruption.

I spoke with Andrew Deegan on the weekend. he made a commitment to get to the Aus schoolboys and then said he was heading to watch Wicks Colts. He is injured. A very big aspersion to cast upon three good young men though, pstoePSTOE - Kellaway was hurt. Horwitz mildly injured at training & was pulled by the Tahs.Dont know about Deegan. Give it a rest pstoe - Kelly gave plenty of blokes a go including Oli & has been good for the club.
