Then again, I'm sure the Aussie commentators make a mince of the Afrikaan names, and I'm pretty sure no non-SA commentator has correctly pronounce the Beast's real name.

...wrote my comment above before reading this one. Agree whole-heartedly.

The SA commentators are so quotable and I love their accents. They get excited with both teams scoring....

Ohohohohohhhoooooooooo look at that! James O'Connor in, but Kurtley Beale Tooooooooooooooooooooreee the springbok defense to pieces
Morne Steyn is going to take the kick, he's taken responsibility and said I can kick that distance... He showed it against the British and Irish Lions.... Ohhh and He's easily got the distance, he's given it a WAaaallllllopppppping thump
Morne Steyn.... One Straight down for the kicking tee
Thirty seconds remain in this test match... and nonu's away.... It's going to be Israel Dagg that breaks south african hearts.

I vote for Growden for the Motorbike Ashtray award.

He makes FitzSimons look like a Pulitzer Prize winner in comparison.

Nobody's articles are awesome. He is best of a bad bunch and wins my vote for Best Print Correspondent (Australian).

Don't read too many of the overseas journos, but most of the kiwi journos that I see on line are AB apologists and seem scared that the chosen ones will not make it, but anyone who dares question the god given right of the NZRT to be awarded the RWC, gets the full artillery opened up on them.

I'd be interested in seeing Mia Freedman write a gossip column about rugby union and league and seeing Growden and Weidler write a Women's Day gossip column to find out who is actually the best.
I reckon Mia Freedman would win hands down. I'd like to see that.

I would like all the commentators to have to learn the laws. The lack of knowledge is atrocious. Former players should know better.

This "downwards pressure" comment really shits me.
I think it comes from mungoland where their rules may demand downward pressure for a try to be scored.

I am not some shiny arsed TV comments man but when I did my referees course, I was told that contact (pressure) with the ball was the issue to be determined when deciding to award a try. Downwards contact was NOT needed. So WTF do the bozos at FoxSports always revert to mungodoms "downwards pressure" comment to try and sound smart during the replays?

I have noticed that the kiwi TV commentators have adopted this terminology offer as well. Too much mungoball watching.

DOWNWARDS PRESSURE is NOT required for a rugby try.

Take note Fox Sports. Get it right.

Agree. Downwards Pressure is BS. Kearnsey is the worst at pretending to know that he knows the laws.

Despite the fact that he is an ex Brumbie and a Back, I have a lot of time for Kafe and would like to nominate him for TV comments award.

Marto reminds me of my cousin. The family embarrassment who you don't know why you tolerate but you do, despite their buffoonery. Nominated for TV Comments Buffoon Award.

Kafe is easily the most astute of the Foxsports team.

I do like his spot on The Rugby Club. He always has some interesting and well thought out analysis.

I only watch via Fox, so can't comment on many, but;

Best tv - Kafer, hon mention Canno.

By rights Marto or Kearns worst, but they make me laugh. Which is something I really like about the Fox crew. Usually upbeat, generally (not always) positive about the opposition. I sometimes think we're watching different games re the ref comments by those two, but I don't care because I like the team and their fun format.

Only ref I can't stand - Stu Wilson of the nut. How such a great player is such a twit is beyond me. Oh wait, we have Campo.

Best print - Nobody. Always puts a new dimension on a current topic. HM; Ewen.

Worst print - too many to single one out, that includes kiwi media. Bloody headline jockeys.

Be grateful we dont get the best of the NH journos...Stephen Jones, Ackford, Guscott, Farrelly (Ireland). Barnes is probably one of the better ones.
Commentary from what I remember from ITV is all gush and they cover the rugby only at WCs so you can imagine the knowledge is crap. They are showing most of it free to air but I think you have to press a myriad of red and green buttons to get the right channel. I'd say the premeir league takes over when on, they get a match every sat

Nominations for laziest (and unethical) Journalism to SMH for this effort.

Honorable mention to "Wayne Smith in Hanmer Springs"

Wow...

http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-union/union-news/drop-horwill-and-cooper-says-bob-dwyer-20110928-1kwkp.html

It just lifts massive chunks out of Bob's article and makes it sound like he said them in an interview. At least it does link the G&GR article.

I just hope Bob's Your Uncle got paid by SMH following their plagiarism.

Kick Too Far-Jones is churning out some good columns for the NZ Herald on line.

Nobody is doing similar for SMH.

What is it about former Great Men in Gold leaders in the media? Much better than most of the former Men in Gold comments people on TV.

Guess the Captaincy was well earned by Nobody and Kick Too Far-Jones.

Best Headline in Print - P FitZsimons "BRING IT ON - Choke, Kiwis, and we mean that in the nicest possible way"
Front Page SMH Weekend Edition Oct 15-16.

Spiros rantings seem to have got so wild that even the IRB appear to have told him to pull his head in

Nomination for Worst Commentator:

Phil Vickery (ITV) - Constantly shouts and doesn't seem to understand the concept of impartiality. Feels like he is constantly probing my ears with his irritating voice.

Maybe I'm nit picking here but it appears we've got an infusion of Gridiron making an influence in addition to Mungo ball. I have heard commentators on Fox refer to a 'try' as a 'touchdown' this is despite the fact that under LAW 22 of Rugby these are what a 'try' & a 'touchdown' is....

22.3 BALL GROUNDED BY AN ATTACKING PLAYER
(a) Try. When an attacking player who is onside is first to ground the ball in the opponents’ ingoal, the player scores a try. This applies whether an attacking or a defending player is responsible for the ball being in the in-goal.

22.5 BALL GROUNDED BY A DEFENDING PLAYER
(a) Touch down. When defending players are first to ground the ball in their in-goal, it results in a touch down.

I try not to sweat the small stuff but they surely should know the difference.
