Who is this Max Bania anyway?- I cant ever recall seeing a rugby article written by him before. Reminds me of the big mouth expert on everything you often come across at a bbq or hear at the next leaner at the pub / club

He's a cricket writer, but in all fairness I would have swapped sports on If I had to write about the Black Caps all the time while the ABs tear it up with wins and entertaining characters and all you get to write about for years is Daniel Vettori

He is just a kid TV reporter on TVNZ the state broadcasters.

Just a fishing expedition I recon.

I miss gordon Bray, When the Wallabies aren't playing in Aus Clarkies voice just makes me fall to sleep, theres no excitement. In Japan v Canada old Gordon had me pumped with his excitement, and pulling out of his facts - they add a bit of interest to it and personalize it to make me care. He adds emotional backing to the players and it made me scream for Japan all the more. Then they made a 90 metre break and he called it beautifully.

Best TV commentary - Gordon Bray

Funnily enough I have enjoyed Bray, never used to be that keen on him,but think now maybe his comments people at times used to piss me off. Have enjoyed his commentary on neutral games, as I have with most of them. I agree any commentator that is pro the opposition you tend to dislike a bit, but I have to admit I have found Kearnsie's actual lack of knowledge of game has really put me off him. And no I don't find him funny. I never been keen on Marto/Kearnsie combo, try to hard to be funny, but have heard Marto as main commentator a couple of times this year, and he has been good. All in all there has been noone so bad I wanted to turn TV off though.

I dont like commentary full stop. I'd rather Fox have the red button option of turning it off & just listening to the crowd & calls from the referee as they used to have as an option on league games. But thats just me.

So your favourite commentator would be Marcel Marceau (stood next to him in an elevator once, surreal)

Worst Aussie Journo has to be a toss up between Grumbles Growden and Danny Weidler.

Grumbles is pretty bad but Danny Weidler is in a league of his own; matter of fact, I think he should stick to league.

But seriously, IMO Weidler should be ineligible to win the award as I don't consider him to be a journalist.

I'd be interested in seeing Mia Freedman write a gossip column about rugby union and league and seeing Growden and Weidler write a Women's Day gossip column to find out who is actually the best.

I have generally found South African commentators good. Happy to give credit where credit is due and analytical about Spring Bok players and tactics.

John Eales - best print reporter. I know he is more a columnist than reporter but his articles are by far the best.

In American sports there is always a play-caller and a colour guy. It seems to me that these roles aren't as clear to me as they might be in rugby coverage.

But I'd be curious --- who does the best play-by-play? Who does the best live colour?

I don't like the South African Super Rugby commentators because during Tahs games they always say Lackie Turner.

That's funny...if the Australian commentators pronounced two or three players out of the starting 22's of any of the South African franchises correctly, it would be a lot.
