In too many of these points threads the punters have been overly impressed with the glittering performances of those numbered from 9 to 15, in the Force's mini run, in the Reds' and Brumbies' victories and in the Tahs' two good games. The backs've played well, but only due to the possession and territory won by their forwards in each of these games. Have we forgotten the old adage: "forwards determine which team wins, backs by how much"? My points for the Tahs match:
3. TPN
2. Mumm
1. McCutcheon
And that's from a back!
Fair enough, Lindo, it generally strikes true. BUT, on Friday, those tries were created mostly from nothing in particular, rather than a long build up of sustained pressure, so in that game I would argue the backs did a fair bit of the "winning". Which is not to decry the effort up front at all.
