They have to take on the Stormers up front. If they can do that they got a very good chance of winning. But that is easier said than done.

Don't know if this has been reported yet

The Stormers suffered another crucial injury blow with the news that loose forward Nick Koster will not be available for the clash against the Force this weekend due to a niggling knee injury.

This website has been reliably informed that the old knee injury which ruled him out of the game for a 14 month period has been flaring up on tour, and despite efforts to manage it on the road he has now been sent home early, presenting coach Allister Coetzee with another selection headache ahead of the final match of their tour in Perth on Saturday.

With Schalk Burger, Jean de Villiers, Gio Aplon and Duane Vermeulen all currently unavailable the South African conference leaders are facing a serious test of depth as they attempt to maintain the momentum which has seen them lose just one match this season.

Koster suffered a concussion in the game against the Highlanders, but the troublesome knee has been the cause of greater consternation for the dynamic loose forward whose place at No.8 will most likely be taken by former SA Under-20 star Nizaam Carr.

Losing Vermeulen and Koster in the same week is a sickening double blow for the Stormers, whose two frontline locks Andries Bekker and Eben Etzebeth have also struggled with niggling injuries on their tour.

If Carr does get the nod to start the game against the Force then his replacement on the bench will probably be his former UCT teammate Don Armand who joined the group earlier in the week following the loss of Vermeuelen.

With a bye coming up next week Coetzee's side will be desperate to get through the clash with the Force unscathed before they get the chance to recuperate back in the Cape before attempting to tackle the second half of their campaign relatively refreshed.

I'll exchange Nizaam Carr for Koster anyday. This will be his big chance and I expect him to be even bigger then Kolisi. He is a Schalk Burger all over the place type of flanker and will keep Pocock busy. Kolisi and Carr not only is house mates but they played together since they started for Ikeys and WP youth teams.

Stormers will have to grind in Perthfontein.

Now Coetzee is digging really deep

The front-row will be the only forward combination that should remain untouched and unchanged when the DHL Stormers team is named later on Wednesday for Saturday’s final Vodacom Super Rugby tour match against the Western Force in Perth.
What had been looking like one of those games where the coaches have to warn against complacency as the Stormers pop into the fast food pit-stop of the Sanzar southern hemisphere rugby highway in search of the win that will make the tour a successful one, is suddenly looking a tricky proposition after a slew of injuries.
The Stormers were already depleted last week when they played well to beat the Super Rugby champions, the Reds, in Brisbane. But while Andries Bekker should return to the side to captain it after missing out to a lower back complaint last week, Nick Koster on Tuesday joined Duane Vermeulen, Gio Aplon and probably Eben Etzebeth in missing the Perth match.
That is on top of the players that were already missing last week, so Stormers coach Allister Coetzee, who has always had a practical approach to injuries and says they are part of the game, must feel that he is having to dig even deeper than he anticipated when the Stormers started the tour with pretty much a full strength squad. Regular captain Schalk Burger, who has been out since being injured in the first match, was the only absentee.
Last year the Stormers experienced an injury crisis at a similar stage of the competition, but most of the problems came in one position – flyhalf. This time the injuries are coming across the board, and are starting to seriously test the Stormers depth.
However Coetzee and his coaches have always expressed confidence that they can suffer injuries in every position and it not be too much a disruption. There is good reason for that confidence – they adopted a policy in last year’s Currie Cup season of pushing the youngsters and back-up players and although injuries in that competition eventually took a heavy toll, there were several under-21 players who made a successful step up to senior rugby. While the policy prevented the WP under-21 team from winning their competition, which they looked like doing at the start of the season, it has had a positive impact on the Stormers.
One of those young players who made an impact is Nizaam Carr, the player likely to replace Koster at No 8 (well he replaces Koster, who was to replace Vermeulen) for the Force game. A former Bishops schoolboy, Carr was a member of one of the Western Province Rugby Institute’s most talented intakes, as among the other students in the year he was there were Frans Malherbe, Etzebeth and Siya Kolisi.
The latter suddenly finds himself as one of the senior players in the newlook Stormers pack, but Carr has shown his potential in his appearances off the bench this season and if the Stormers get through the Force game with a win Coetzee will find himself having ticked another box.
It’s been a great season so far when it comes to ticking boxes for new players coming through, and both the Stormers and the Bulls are doing a great job of flooding South African rugby with new talent. With the Western Province team comfortably on top of their section in the Vodacom Cup and unbeaten, there is certainly no sign of the disaster that was feared when a whole tier of players – the likes of JJ Engelbrecht, Johan Sadie, Lionel Cronje, Conrad Jantjes, Tim Whitehead etc – left the union in the off-season.
But every week the challenge appears to become tougher, and the Stormers team that starts on Saturday should have a completely rejigged second row and back row on top of the changes that were made last week.
Etzebeth is still with the squad in Australia but was given until the last possible opportunity to recover from the shoulder injury that has been troubling him recently, an indication that the chances of him starting the game aren’t great.
Probable Stormers team: Joe Pietersen, Gerhard van den Heever, Bryan Habana, Juan de Jongh, Danie Poolman, Peter Grant, Dewaldt Duvenage, Nizaam Carr, Rynhardt Elstadt, Siya Kolisi, Andries Bekker, De Kock Steenkamp, Brok Harris, Tiaan Liebenberg, Steven Kitshoff.

Coetzees view
Stormers site
Commenting on his selections coach Allister Coetzee said, “Despite the injuries this week and some enforced changes, the touring group is in high spirits and is very motivated.”

“Our motto for the week is; nothing special has ever been achieved in ideal conditions. A win this week will be the difference between a good tour and a great one and this group knows that. We have picked a strong side, our sessions this week have been excellent and we will be going all out for a win in this game.”

I'll jump in.

Malherbe is the most exciting young tighthead in SA I have seen since I can remember.

It's been a while since young props in SA have really come through and suddenly we have a few including this guy and the Ginger Express (TM)

Me likes the looks of that pack.

I hope Carr shoots the lights out. Paarl what is his preferred position?

That Kolisi guy has a tremendous work rate. To think of it he is the reserve flanker filling in for Burger! Where do they hide these guys?

Steven Kitshoff has had a storming season so far in the No. 1 jumper. The 120Kg youngster is able to Bench-press 185 Kg and Squat a massive 260Kg.

Carr play usually in the 6 jersey and is pretty much versatile like Schalk, Kolisi 7. Played his last Voddas game for WP in 8 against Border

The Stormers have lots of quality loose forwards mostly coming from the two Varsity Cup Maties and Ikeys teams. At the moment we still have excellent 6 flankers in Nick Fenton-Wells who is leading the unbeaten WP Voddas team, Rohan Kitshoff played WC for Namibia. Even the Lions poached the Maties Grant Hattingh to the bench this weekend. I also know Helmut Lehman, who is Maties captain and one tough customer and Tertius Daniller (Hennies boet) well who played for Paarl Gym in the past. Pretty sure they will be picked up by our other provinces next year.
