My team is currently:

P: Angus Ta'avao, Ben Franks, (Owen Franks)
H: Stephen Moore, (Ged Robinson)
L: Hugh Pyle, Rob Simmons, (Rynier Bernado)
BR: Liam Messam, Pieter Labuschagne, George Whitelock, (Marcel Coetzee)
HB: Alby Mathewson, (Nic White)
5/8: Christian Lealiifano, (George Catrakilis)
C: James O'Connor, Robert Ebersohn, (Chris Tuatara-Morrison)
OB: Charles Piutau, Bernard Foley, Henry Speight, (Ben Smith)

I still have one transfer left this week.
I still have my wildcard up my sleeve but want to save it for now. Hopefully next week my only forced transfer is Ebersohn so I can use the other two transfers to improve a couple of duds.
Any thoughts? I won my first Challenge round by the way.

Get Owen Franks on the field, Crusaders are going to have a field day.
Use your other transfer to drop Speight for Folau or Whitelock for Wimpie van der Walt.

and I just have a dislike for some players so I won't pick them eg. James Slipper. (I don't know why I don't like him but I do...Higgers is another one, M Steyn too)
I really want a Crusader in my backs somewhere but not sure where to fit him in. Who do I drop and who do I pick?

At the moment I have:
O Franks, S Moore, S Ferreira
S Luatua, S Whitelock
G Smith, P Labuschagne, J Englebrecht
J Veermak
C Lealiifano
C Smith, R Kahui
R Ranger, F Halai, L Masaga

Thoughts?
It's fine to not pick someone you don't if there's a replacement :p I refused to pick Ben Alexander last year so I got Slipper instead.

Tom Marshall is a good choice in the backs (when the Crusaders have a good week). I'd drop Masaga for him.

Otherwise your team looks pretty damn good. Halai isn't as consistent as Piutau but Piutau himself isn't consistent. IMO you should be aiming to get two of these three: Folau, AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper), Foley.

Both those calls are probably worth following. I think I'll bench Ben Franks who is at home against the Stormers and play Ta'avao who is playing away against the Reds, but the Reds are playing a front row of Daley, Fainga'a and Slipper which should be a bit weaker in the scrums than normal.

Another option from the Kings is Jacques Engelbrecht who is finally starting this week but has scored really well off the bench in the past (their backrow of du Preez, van der Walt and Engelbrecht is excellent). I would probably trade out Messam though. George Whitelock has performed better this season.

Bringing Folau in for Speight could also be a good call.

The problem with Folau, AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) and Foley is that aside from a favourable matchup against the Kings next week, the Tahs have some tough games coming up (Bulls this week, (Kings), Stormers, Brumbies).

I went back and forth over picking Folau last week and didn't.....I was kicking myself on Fri nite...LOL.

Here's my team. I am struggling with a few decisions. Do I bring in Jacques Englebrecht into my backrow? And who would I bench? Conrad Smith into the centers for Tapuai? Jesse Mogg - should he stay on the bench?

Jesse Mogg would seem like more of a sure thing this weekend against the Force than the Tahs players.

The one thing you know with Folau is he should get plenty of metres because they will kick to him all day. Whether the Tahs can get much backline attack going is another question though. Playing at Loftus is a tough challenge.

So you are saying leave Izzy in and take out Foley for Mogg?

That is what I'd do based on gut feeling. I'm not doing very well in Fantasy Rugby this year though. :D

Who knows though. Everything could click for the Tahs and Foley could have a blinder.

It's a tough call but I might stick with my current team. I am doing decent in the league (54th I think). If Mogg has a great week I will regret it.

I tend to pick players who are consistent over the last 3 games or so.

foley and falou have both been fantastic recently, but im worried about having two tahs in my backline against the bulls at home>> in saying that i dont doubt the tahs will attempt to play the same way they have all year and that means points for foley... but the bulls forwards are big and angry

I reckon Hooper might be a good pick this week to have in your team.....

My lineup at the moment:
B Franks, Cowan (Ferreira)
Robinson [C] (Cooper)
Luatua, Du Toit (Whitelock)
Labuschagne [V], Smith, van der Walt (Cane)
Genia (Reinach)
Lealiifano (Anscombe)
Kahui, Serfontein (C Smith)
Foley, Piutau, Speight (B Smith)

Any reccomendations to that team? I transfered in stronger scoring props in Franks and Cowan because I lost my cup match in part, due to my props and centres, even though he had two or three players not playing!

And last week just reaffirmed why I should NOT captain backs, as captaining Kahui backfired majorly.

Feeling your pain Bairdy, ended my last round on 287 which is my worst round since I began playing fantasy rugby back somewhere around 2006...

I've managed my depression and re-worked a team I am hopeful will pull me an easy 350, though I know I should be aiming closer to the 400+ mark. Small steps..

J. Slipper (RED), B. Alexander (BRU) - T. Mtawarira (SHA)
G. Robinson (C)(REB) - H. Elliott (CHI)
H. Pyle (REB), L de Jager (CHE) - B. Thorn (HIG)
P. Labuschagne (CHE), G. Whitelock (CRU), W. van der Walt (KIN) - L. Braid (BLU)
J. Vermaak (BUL) - C. Reinach (SHA)
C. Lealilifano (BRU) - A. Cruden (CHI)
R. Kahui (CHI), R. Ebersohn (CHE) - F. Saili (BLU)
J. Tomane (BRU), B. Foley (WAR), T. Marshall (CRU) - F. Halai (BLU)

There are a few positions I am still contemplating:

Luke Braid (BLUES) - Has been in form, coming off a bye against the Reds and seems to always score well. Anyone think it might be worth swapping him in for one of my backline? Whitelock hasn't been in great form but am hoping he has a field day this round.

Christian Lealilifano (BRUMBIES) - Pretty certain here that I have made the right call with the Brumbies playing the Force. Cruden could still have a blinder and the Chiefs must be feeling the pressure after a few loses now.

Frank Halai (BLUES) - Another Blues player here and am honestly only interested in swapping him in for Tomane. This is a tough one as the Reds could shut Halai down whereas the Brumbies should have some good running time.

Everyone read this, ponder and get back to me with the correct answer/s within the hour, lol.
Cheers

  • Would suggest switching Cowan and Ferreira. Force have the Brumbies and points will be hard to come by. Ferreira has been excellent all year.
  • Whitelock's been excellent and is up against the Rebels who will probably get a hiding. I prefer him to Du Toit.
  • Think about switching Lilo and Anscombe. Chiefs will be very angry and Sharks are badly wounded.
  • Kahui's at 12 this week so I don't think he'll score as well as Conrad Smith. A swap might be in order.
  • If you've got a transfer left, Speight is playing well but not scoring well. Brumbies' gameplan the issue I think.

Decided to leave my halfbacks alone this week as felt swapping either Reinach (on bench this week) or Kingi (left out) for another halfback is a waste of a transfer given the low and inconsistent scoring by many of the halfbacks this year.

Plumped for Dagg instead as he's overdue for a big score!

I've dropped Foley to bench. Just dont see them doing much but clearing from the 22 and having to defend. Swapped out Gear for Dagg

G. Whitelock out for Hooper and Cruden out for Anscombe.

Ben Franks, James Slipper, Stephen Moore (C), Sam Whitelock, Steven Luatua, George Smith (VC), Pieter Labuschagne, Michael Hooper, Will Genia, Gareth Anscombe, Ryan Crotty, James O'Connor, Jesse Mogg, Israel Dagg, Charles Piutau
