England v Wallabies, Twickenham, Sun 10th Nov 2:10AEDT / 1:10AEST

What a game....JS take a bow.

I watched the AB game at a mates place yesterday with a couple of other NZers and a few Aussies. All the AB fans picked a Wallaby win while the Aussies thought it would be lucky if the game was close.

I think that speaks more to the years of disappointment for Wallaby fans but that was an awesome Test.

Valetini was huge. Bell was as well. Sua'ali'i has already started earning his contract. Very pleasing to see the forward pack really stand up.

Finally, I'm not one to bash ref's but O'Keeffe was average at best I thought.

The self belief in the team hasn’t been there before. So for me, after rewatching the game, it looked like we were going to go down again, after hitting the lead and then conceding it with a few minutes left. What do we do with less than a minute? So the short kick off was nailed and then we choose to roll up the park… Donaldson not in the pocket for a 50/50 field goal shot? Are we hoping for a penalty and then a nervous shot to possibly fall wide? I’m not sure who called it, but to decide to put it through the hands and go wide was reminiscent of our great teams … their self belief… who can forget the try Lynagh senior scored against the Irish at the death when all seemed lost in the RWC in 1991? To go for the try … now that was balsy… and to pull it off under such pressure after the bell! I hope this is a turning point for these young men .. that they realise they are capable of much more. Every one in the 23 man squad played their part. So good! Hats off to Joe Schmidt…. Ikitau, Bell, Valetini… Sua'ali'i…. Mate… I’m still in shock! Well done boys!

Sua'ali'i getting MoM is a bit silly. He had an awesome debut but for me, either Valetini or Bell deserved it more.
Yes.. thought the same… or Ikitau.. I guess they took into account that it was his debut, at Twickenham, after not having played rugby for 5 years since school… who does that…,and he played well and seemed to instill in his team mates a winning belief…

Sua'ali'i named MOTM. Not sure about that. Cracking debut but Ikitau had to be in with a shout.
Neither am I. On the Oz side Wright and Ikitau were magnificent, but my MotM was the Pommy five-eighth, Smith. His direction leading his team around the pitch and delicate touches with short kicks were sublime. I hope Schmidt goes over this game with Noah to show him how a five-eighth should direct his team.

Only big native takeaway for me is the high ball contests. Did the Wallabies win one?

Wright, Kellaway got out jumped or missed it each time. Teams will pepper it. Can be improved though.

With great frustration I got up this morning to check my phone for the time - and had a Goole news announcement giving me the result. <groan>

All the same, I think that was the most enjoyable game of rugby I have watched since following the Reds in 2011. Here's an unorganised reaction.

Ikitau is a born 12, line organisation was very largely brilliant, I'm used to that coming from 15. That new 13 bloke, not MOTM but incredible handling skills matched by the back three following everything he was doing. reminded me of Quade feeding the blindside wing. I thought Jake Gordon was crisp and accurate, certainly our starting 9 for me. It was fab to see BPA in gold again Our set piece was out-matched by England, but geez, we weren't far off.

Got to feel for England, they were really good.
