Wait, he's not even the first choice 12 for his 2nd division Japanese Club team?
It's more complicated than that. Tua is Japanese qualified, so doesn't count against the player quotas. Need 11 Cat A players on the pitch.

(Edit - he played in the promotion/relegation match which probably gives an indication as to the first team)

I read a fair bit about this kind of thing in Robbie Deans article a few months ago and his view is that the Japanese club scene is not a sinicure anymore and the speed and strength of the game has improved dramatically over the last 5-10 years.
Gits and AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) were saying on the KOKO show this week that the Japanese preseason is massive. By the sounds of it, players in Japan should be the fittest in the world.

they're known for being massive in terms of duration and quantity of trials, the pre-season tournaments used to be almost as long as the actual season

Restarts were a huge improvement on both sides of the ball - good to see us fixing the issues from the Rugby Championship and largely taking them cleanly when receiving.

Seemed to be a distinct change in tactic here that worked much better.

Previously the catcher and the lifter were effectively bound together before the catch and were awkwardly trying to get into the right position for the jump and the lift.

Yesterday, Williams was very clearly getting himself in position by himself and then the lifter(s) would move into position for his jump. I think that separation made things much easier.
