Drua v Brumbies, Rd 1 2025, Feb 15 1:35pm

You'd think the Drua should have this one fairly comfortably. But if my memory serves me correctly, they have been somewhat slow starters to Super Rugby in the past, but against that it is their first home game to start the season (I think). On the Brumbies' side, they certainly are taking a risk not playing most of their Wallabies, but some of those who would usually be regarded as benchies or just squad members have had excellent trial matches against what were essentially starting sides from the Tahs and Force. It's encouraging to think that if they are competitive with almost full Super Rugby sides, they will also be competitive with the Drua this early in the season. Then, the weather and conditions come into play, probably tipping the game more in the Drua favour. In the end, I am hoping for, rather than expecting, a Brumbies win against the odds, but will be satisfied if they run the Drua close and get more experience into that next group of players coming through the system.

Brumbies are favourites for this one (officially, as per bookies), which is a bit of a surprise to me given the Drua's record at home, especially against travelling Australian teams.

Weather forecast is 30 degrees at kickoff and 85% humidity, with thunder and showers. Tough weather for rugby

I know a win is the goal but with the guys out and in Fiji is getting back home with a BP of some sort a good result?

This is a brutal kick off but also good to get it done for the year.

Obviously pretty sweaty over there. Drua have looked dangerous with limited touches but Brumbies doing well to limit their opportunities.

Discipline killing the Drua, two yellow cards in the first half will really limit their ability to overwhelm the brumbies in the last corner as they tend to do at home

Man, those yellows didn't bother the drua at all in the end. Brumbies falling into the same trap as most other visitors to Fiji

If rugby could be played like Fiji play, every game would be packed! Ban rolling mauls… sorry Brumbies… bloody boring. Encourage 10 point tries from running from inside your 22 and scoring a try.
