Last year didnt the force play the Highlanders in Queenstown? It was a smallish ground but had great views. I'd like to see the game moved nearby not to Sydney.

Edit: Queenstown is actually 6 hours from CHCH. Fuck I thought everything in NZ was a 2-3 hour drive away :)

actually went to that game.A great venue,as long as the weather is good.& as the Mayor said, only an hours flight from Christchurch & direct flights from Sydney

If the Canes have the bye, take the game to the cake tin as a fundraiser. The patriotism of New Zealanders will ensure a big crowd and I am sure that they would like first dibs at helping out their countrymen. It is a nice jesture from the Tahs though.

I think it is a good offer, it would be an additional hosted game for NSW, so they could easily donate the takings. the other stadiums Moses mentioned are pretty small, they could probably do it but gate takings would be small. There is a chance to make some real $ for the fund raising by holding it in Sydney.

A game at SFS could raise a lot of money for the quake victims.

I think the Canterbury public would sooner see the game played in their own area, rather than having it taken away, either offshore or to Wellington or Queenstown. If a Christchurch ground is unavailable the Timaru or Nelson would be my pick.

Was last week dedicated to the Qld Floods and did some of the gate at each game go to fundraising? Should do something like that for Christchurch.

Looks really bad and feel for all affected.

I nearly had to turn off that game. It was too bright to watch.

Liquefaction has caused major damage to the playing surface with bubbles of up to half a metre high surfacing all over the AMI Stadium playing field.

And i thought AAMI park in melbourne was the bubble dome.

I doubt they will move the game to the SFS, consider human emotion, there are some crazy fans in ChCh and some people will find it hard to bear with the loss of their city. NZ is truly a beautiful country and it is a tragedy when something like this happens.

I also think that SANZAR, NSWRU and the Crusaders have handled this very well, with their "worry about the people first, then the rugby". I doubt we would see that sort of respect in NRL or AFL.

The crusaders are unlikely to play again at ami stadium this season as the ground is in such a bad state, the talk is 5 months to repair. No venue has been named as a replacement. team to decide tmoro whether to play or not this weekend but it seems likely they will play. On a positive note my 72 yr old dad was at a bus stop when it happened but made it to safety, house has been damaged but this morning he was back at his local pub! on ya dad!

Queenstown & Nelson are not in the Canterbury shire. If they were to move games to out lying areas you'd think they would be in the Canterbury Crusader area at least.

The ground will be OK by world Cup time, providing we don't get another big shake.

And, thankyou Australia for your assistance in our hour of need. Your blokes are doing a fine job.

Bear in mind a lot of kiwi expats live in the eastern suburbs, namely maroubra.
Seeing that support even from overseas is brothers looking out for one another.

The Crusaders are made up of Canterbury, South Canterbury, Mid-Canterbury, Tasman, West Coast, Buller and Marlborough. Canterbury (Christchurch) and Tasman (Nelson) are the only to Tier 1 NPC provinces. Tasman's ground holds about 20,000 and is a RWC venue too.

But we are talking about Crusaders a Super Rugby team, not Canterbury a rugby union. Queenstown is within the Highlanders bailiwick but Nelson is in the Crusaders area. The Saders have played Super games there before.

With the State of Emergency being declared NZ wide, there is a real possibility that there will be insufficient public resources available to enable large public gatherings such as Rugby matches to be held in a safe and orderly manner. The suspension of normal rule by the declaration of the S of E will give the Commissioner of Police the power to veto any public gathering which he is unable to provide staff to maintain order and security at. Since 200 Police officers plus military personel have been imported from Oz to assist NZ at this time it is not beyond the realms of possibility that all Super games in NZ are suspended this weekend. If that is the case so be it, the resources could definitely be put to better use than crowd control and security at a Rugby match.

Fair enough guys, I stand corrected on Nelson, sounds like a logical choice to play their games there until the good city of Christchurch gets back on its feet.

SANZAR Press Release

SANZAR CEO Greg Peters has announced that the Crusaders will withdraw from their Super Rugby match against the Hurricanes in Wellington on Saturday, following the devastating earthquake that struck Christchurch yesterday.

SANZAR rugby nations New Zealand, South Africa and Australia stand behind the Crusaders and their decision to withdraw from the round two match against the Hurricanes in Wellington on Saturday 26 February.

Crusaders Chief Executive Hamish Riach said the decision not to travel to Wellington this weekend, was reached following discussions between the Crusaders coaches, senior players and Crusaders’ Board.

“After all that has happened here in Christchurch and with so many lives affected by this event, we have decided it would not be appropriate to play a game of rugby against the Hurricanes on Saturday. Our thoughts are with our families, friends and wider Crusaders’ community and rugby is not a priority at the moment.

“All of the Crusaders players, team management, staff and board members have been directly affected by this terrible tragedy and it’s our desire to stay here and support our families and community at this time,” Riach said.

Peters said that the decision had the full backing of all three SANZAR countries.

“This decision had to be steered by the Crusaders Board, management and team. Our thoughts are very much with all of those affected by the earthquake,” Peters said.

NZRU Chief Executive Steve Tew said that New Zealand rugby stood firmly behind the Crusaders and the Canterbury rugby region.

“New Zealand is dealing with an enormous human tragedy and our sympathies and thoughts are very much with the people of Christchurch at this time. We will continue to work to see how we can best support our friends and colleagues in the Crusaders and the Canterbury community over the coming weeks and months,” Tew said.

Hurricanes Chairman Paul Collins said: “We fully support the Crusaders’ decision not to play this fixture and we wish to extend our sympathies to everyone who has been affected by this tragedy. Our focus now will be on finding ways in which the Hurricanes franchise can support the people of Christchurch through this terrible time. Obviously there are a number of logistical issues we have to work through with our commercial partners, members and supporters who were planning to come to the game on Saturday and we will be working hard to resolve these as soon as possible.”

Peters said that SANZAR executive committee involving all three countries had agreed to declare the Hurricanes v Crusaders match a draw and the competition points would be shared evenly between the two franchises (two points each), as consistent with similar situations in other international tournaments. Both franchises had been consulted and were in agreement with this decision.

What would probably be fair result and a good show of support from all the SANZAR teams is if they are all awarded 2 points this weekend with only the for and against being affected...

It might end up being unfair for either of these teams if they were to miss out on the finals by two competition points...

It works both ways I suppose one of them might make the finals by 1 point and if they lost , if the game went ahead, they shouldn't be in the finals. I think it's a good idea and just leave it at that. They defiantly need too have one of the tests as a charity match.

If they got no points they still would of agreed and not played anyway. It's not about rugby.
Go the force!!!!
