As someone who is in my 4th go around in junior village rugby (if you count my playing time in the 70s), I just can't believe some of the goings on in junior rugby. Is it any wonder numbers are in (sharp) decline. Aside from the matters listed in this thread re Chatswood 16s, I've witnessed nepotism, absolutely disgraceful selection decisions and processes, parental misbehaviour, coaches cynically exploiting rules, clubs going out of their way to make things difficult for their opposition and clubs deliberately nominating teams in 2 or 3 divisions below where they should be (presumably so they can see their sons with a trophy of some description). And this sort of stuff is happening in 10s! I talk to people at the club and they shrug their shoulders - apparently this is junior rugby in the 21st century.
Honestly, you couldn't make some of this shit up if you tried. At senior level, people wouldn't even dream of this crap, but it happens in kids sport.
I am so disillusioned with junior club rugby, the way it's run and they way certain adults carry on, if I wasn't such a rugby fan, my son would be playing league next year.
