Weakest conference anyone?
You couldn't possibly be insinuating that the South African conference was the weakest?

By far the weakest conference was our own, what was it 3 of the bottom 5 teams were from Australia?

Sure we have the champs and the Tahs were alright, but all in all we were crap.

This isn't to take anything away from the Reds at all, they were the best team in the competition. But maybe there would have been a few more slip ups along the way if another Australian team had been stronger - Reds slipped up against the Brumbies anyway.

All this said, both Australia and South Africa pale in comparison the New Zealand conference, highly competitive across the board.

And it's about time the conference's got their own logos, like in the NBA or NFL.

But most of all, congratulations Reds! Origin and Super Rugby all in one week, only thing left is for the Broncos to score the NRL premiership and I'll be one happy man.

Cyclo,

You did sound a bit like phil Gould in origin commentary. If the blues are winning it is because they are good if the are losing it is because they are playing shit.

Also what a top bloke Brad Thorn is. That was a gracious interview he gave after the match. Great career in both codes. Top bloke.

Yep, know a few that have met and have all said the same.

Mccaw is also in the same league. A legend of the game and a fantastic person.

Congrats Reds and their fans. Am glad that a different team won it. Is also great for the health of Australian rugby.

Great win the Reds, deserved it, no-one can doubt it. Several key Crusaders had off games - McCaw not at his best, Carter either apart from 1 moment of brilliance. But the Reds just held their nerve in defence. Huge.

Yeah, that's exactly what I posted Scotty, clearly I said the Reds only won because the Crusaders were shit. Must have been the bit about how they deserved it and how good their defence was which tipped you off? I made an observation that 2 of the best players in the world had off games, which was more to reflect my surprise, as they seldom do. But I guess you can find offence in anything if you try hard enough.

Well done Reds - fantastic game.

I must say, I actually enjoyed the way the ref let the game go. I know a lot of my mates were shouting for penalties for the Crusaders being offside (I was in a bar full of Qlders) - but to me it seemed both sides cottoned on early that Lawrence was going to let a fair bit go and so both teams just went hell for leather at the breakdown. I am sure there were plenty of infringements from both sides but at the end it was a great game to watch and the contest at the breakdown lived up to the hype.

It makes the victory even better that the Reds beat such a great team. Condolences to the Crusaders - and hats off to them and all their supporters given what they have been through.

You could have easily pointed out that two of the reds (and worlds) best also had below standard games - genia and Cooper. Their poor games came about due to the forwards pressure from the saders. While Carter was poor partly due to the midfield defensive pressure of the reds and Mccaw due to the pressure at the breakdown.

The only player that had a true shocker with limited pressure on him was Corey Flynn. He truly contributed to his own teams downfall.

Good points. The Reds struggled where it was predicted they might - scrum, and subsequently Genia and Cooper were crowded and rushed and negated, to a large degree. But they still did it. Lineout was pleasantly surprising - I thought the Crusaders might disrupt it more. Instead, the Reds pinched a couple of crucial balls.Defence was superb. The most exciting prospect I saw was Tapuai. No disrespect to Ant Fainga'a, but I saw far more in Tapuai to suggest a long career in the Wallabies might beckon. Dangerous in attack, and very solid in defence, both in the tackle, and positionally.
Lawrence? Well, he performed to expectation for me, which is to say he was average.
What, like this maybe , Scotty?

Nice gesture PB..and to all other team supporters who are applauding the Reds win. It's been a very long time between drinks, so this is a real moment to savour for the long suffering!

Very happy for the Reds. They have been the best team all season and were definitely the best team last night. It's hard not to think that we are witnessing the start of a Reds' dynasty as long as Cooper and Genia stay in Brisbane.
