Interestingly 20% of voters (out of roughly 10,000) on that website do think the Run It Straight competition should be allowed to proceed.

You know what an actually interesting event would be - work with the top CTE doctors around the world to come up with what kind of uniform and protective equipment is required to ensure zero damage to the brain or body.

Then have two blokes dressed like the Michelin man run at each other.

Those bubble suits. Saw a vid of a bloke getting hit by a car in one and go into orbit. Seemed alright.

Looks like the organisers expected to just rock up to the park & do whatever:

"Auckland Council confirmed to Local Democracy Reporting that Williams Park was council-owned, and no application for an event permit or booking was received."

Event permits typically incur costs for things like traffic management/ temporary road closures plus you've got to provide toilets, security & possibly have medics on site. If they couldn't be arsed doing any of that fuck 'em.

Little surprise that the organisers themselves may not be the sharpest tools in the shed, either.

Taking out the stupidity of the entire event - the fact they were able to offer $20k cash prize for the winner of the Oz event, but then couldn't even tick the compliance boxes to properly run another event and pay the associated costs should be a huge red flag to anyone involved in this shit show.

Some things just aren't adding up.

Just when you think things couldn't get any more on brand - the NZ competition is being endorsed by NRL legend Manu Vatuvei - who most recently got sentenced to 3 years in jail for the importation of meth.

Great brand ambassador.

Looks like the event was held last night, with the inevitable result

I imagine each competitor will be individual contractors (same as boxing and MMA), rather than employees like rugby players, so they can get around the WHS laws
mmmm kinda get around, but hosting what could be argued is reckless and negligent doesn't get you off the hook. MMA, Boxing and other combat sports are sanctioned and registered by governments which supports them.

If I hold an MMA fight in my garage you bet I can be held responsible regardless of any form I get people to sign.
