Sevens will benefit from the Australian Olympic funding in the not too distant future...so that money will help a lot to secure certain players...

Does anyone here have any idea exactly when and how much funding the ARU would recieve said AOC funding?

The question would then to either use it all for the National Sevens squad or to establish a local circuit within a greater Sevens season.

The Sevens circuit matters to Australian rugby, simply because it provides another opportunity for young guys on the way up to get some dollars. No myth, we need opportunities for our players at all levels, and Sevens provides one such opportunity.

Yes, but it is such an ordinary game.

The only people who dont see the value of sevens come from major cities like Sydney where the rugby pathway is in their own backyard, not regional/rural areas. A sevens comp in Australia is the next best thing to the ARC in terms of reaching out to areas where what school you went to doesnt mean squat nor does it matter if your working class or well off. I will always regard 15s as number one but sevens is not a bad game and if a team is dedicated enough in their training they can upset anyone on their day whereas it's harder in 15s. You can say sevens is ordinary all you want but give me a clash between my beloved home of Newcastle against those C##TS from Sydney (peace sydneyites, tongue-in-cheek) in a sevens game and I'd be more passionate about that then any other state Rugby comp - would be the same for many others. Instead of complaining about sevens shortcomings how about look at the big picture on what it could do for the game of Rugby in terms of creating more pathways and supporters. For the record I'm from womens rugby, we already have a system that allows all women who play rugby a chance to get higher rep honours no matter where they play, so it doesnt effect me. However, I do feel very sorry for the blokes in my local rugby scene who end up in mungoball because the pathway is better than Union.

All good arguments, but i still don't like it. And yes, if that is my attitude, I don't have to watch it.

Angry, I supported Spewn's statement that Sevens was "an ordinary game" in the sense that I do not find it enjoyable to watch, e.g., too many soft tries, not enough forward engagements, etc. That doesn't mean that I don't see its value in widening rugby's appeal.

Fair enough, point taken. Being a backrower I love forward engagements myself.

The pools for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow have been decided.

Australia are drawn in Pool D alongside England, Sri Lanka and Uganda

Pool A - New Zealand, Canada, Scotland, Nigeria

Pool B - South Africa, Kenya, Cook Islands, Trinidad & Tobago

Pool C - Samoa, Wales, Papua New Guinea, Malaysia

Pool D - Australia, England, Sri Lanka, Uganda

A bit surprising that Tonga did not make it. They should be stronger than the Cooks, I would have thought.

The fact Tonga didn't send a team to the Oceania 7's tournament has come back to bite them. The Cooks finished 4th in that tournament to be enough to qualify.
