Ladies look away Now!!

The Darkness have just stripped off their shirts to do a Haka to celebrate. 6 packs galore. Buff ++.

Pretty sure I looked like that once, but in one of my many moves I think I must have misplaced the negatives to prove it.

I have seen more fat on my local butchers pencil.

Yeah what a fucking tosser that prick is how many gold medals have the Kiwis won in this com games? 3 gold medals now whoopi duckshit.

They can't even play the population card as Scotland is above them.

It's been poor by us, no excuse, have u noticed we are losing at cricket to the bangles too?

Scotland on the up tho in all sports, good on them. Apparently they knocked off a sh team last year....

By the way, well dine on topping the medal table again, comm games are well and tryly a feast for Aussie success. I wish nz was as awesome as Aussie, as a kiwi I bow to your superiority at everything.

Except rugby. :)

Disappointing. But from where our 7s was just a coupla seasons ago who woulda thunk it.

Well done to the Kiwis. I have seen them play a lot better but they were too good anyway.

Well done to our lads too. I didn't think that they had a prayer to make the final last night but they proved me wrong. Their ploy of running into contact and winning the collisions then whipping it wide didn't work against the Poms and I doubted it would work against Samoa. The thing is: I didn't watch the end of the first day until this morning; so didn't realise that we would be playing Kenya.

Different story: Samoa have the wood against us physically, but the method worked against Kenya. I thought it would work against the RSA too, because we have had the wood on them recently.

I didn't think they were a chance against the Kiwis unless everything went our way; so I was relaxed when the game started and I didn't get nervous until we were ahead by 10.

But during the game we saw the things we didn't want to see: the tap from the wrong spot; the poor pass after it was tapped correctly; the pass from DJF for a Kiwi try (was it forward?); Morahan, not for the first time in the day not succeeding in getting to the ground in the tackle and Oz losing it for not using; then the pass from Phipps to Gill agonisingly too far forward and knocked on. Yarda, yarda.

Similar items could be listed by the Friends of Darkness I suppose, but they were the kind of things that this inexperienced Oz side had to get right or lucky with to beat a team that had never lost a single match in the Commonwealth games.

PS 1. I know that the colour of the jerseys had to conform with the colour of other Oz kit in the Games but I hate the un-golding, or the lemoning, of the Oz rugby jersey since the 80's.

PS 2. The funniest part of the day. At half-time Samoa v Scotland the camera went to the Samoan huddle and I couldn't understand what they were saying. Fair enough. Then the camera switched to the Scotland huddle and I couldn't understand anything they were saying either.

PS 3

About the players:

I haven't retreated from my view that the team will be better when a flier like the injured Sills is in the team because he forces defences to configure wider thus creating chances inside. He was missed in Delhi.

It will be better when steppers like BKH and Kingi are back in the squad also if they are aren't regulars in Super 15 matchday 22s. If they aren't available then a couple of others need to be sourced because Stannard was the only guy who made breaks in the middle of the field in the Comm games.

The forwards did better against the Kiwis than against the Poms but they still back-pedalled too much. I assume that Gill will stay in the squad in 2011 but McCutcheon has to be replaced as the Tahs will have him in matchday 22s. Quirk should be back but who ever is in we should have 4 forwards in the next 12 man squad including Vanderglass who is a bit of a hybrid.

Stannard will be missed as I suppose he will be on Super duty; so the quarterback role may go to 21 y.o. Phipps who impressed me even though they had him playing hooker. Coleman is a must in the leadership role too.

Bloody hell Stannard was good. Surely there's a space for him in the 15s game.

If not, he should become our Ben Gollings and be well paid for it. With the style of the game now, 7s more important a development track than ever.

Thank God Robbie prioritised it.....no he didn't....yes he did......no he didnt.....

Hey guys, wonder if anyone can tell me when Ten showed the gold medal match last night, was it live? I fell asleep on couch waiting for it, and woke around 11pm, and patiently waited for the supposedly 'delayed' telecast judging from past experience...gave up when they bloody put on rhythmic gymnastics after the bronze play off at 2.30am!!!

Sevens is gaining in popularity and I think someone like Stannard could make a living out of the game in years to come. The standard sevens contract is around 20k with exceptional players like Stannard probably on between 30-40K for 6 months work. Let's look at some raw facts. The IRB world series just announced their first ever series sponsor HSBC in a five year deal. See http://www.irb.com/newsmedia/mediazone/pressrelease/newsid=2040495.html

For a fifth consecutive year a record global audience switched on to Sevens in 2010. Television broadcast coverage of the eight-tournament 2009/10 Sevens World Series reached 141 countries across six continents, with 34 broadcasters showing action from the most competitive Series to date, won by Samoa for the first time in the Series’ 11-year history. The Series also attracted record attendance figures with over 500,000 fans enjoying the unique event festival atmosphere.

The readmission of sevens into the Olympics has created great interest and countries like Australia are now takig sevens more seriously. At schools level they had the inaugural Australian Schoolboys championships in March this year and the Scots College 7's which was a great event. More sevens tournaments are springing up - the latest super 7's rugby inviting colts teams and teams from rugby leagues Toyota Cup to take part. A great initiative. http://super7srugby.com.au/

The ARU needs to look to establish a proper 7s season running through Summer. That way you'll attract not only Rugby player's but Leaguies aswell. It would be a masterstroke in development and participation in the game. If club Rugby became a little more flexible with its scheduling in the 15's season you could see a real overflow into the winter particularly in the juniors.

That and a National series. As for the Super7s concept any idea as to teams entering and ticket sales. Oh and will there be some media exposure.

I must admit I was a wee bit nervous there when the Aussies were up by 10.

I was surprised to see Stowers get around Lachie "Fastest man in football" Turner to setup Baker for the last try but just goes to show just a half-second hesitation can leave you grasping air, even if you have got serious wheels like Turner.

Just goes to show you how much the Aussie 7's program has improved in a couple of seasons just by putting a bit more $$ and emphasis into it. NZ have been doing it for years and using it to launch players into the 15's scene.

PS- note to my Darkness mates. Have you had a look at the medal table recently. This 3rd Gold medal should rocket NZ to 10th place on the Table ahead of Samoa and behind Scotland.

#9 for Darkness was Stowers, and he didn't burn off Turner on the outside for the matchwinning try. It was Stannard. Dsepite this Stannard was my MOM.

Was definitely Turner

I thought it was Turner too, though to be fair Turner was absolutely exhausted 5 minutes earlier and should have been replaced

It was Turner 100%. Agreed, Turner should have been replaced. But he was beaten by footwork - not necessarily pace when Stowers got on his outside.
