Clarity on Passing

Therefore the pass is in an indeterminate state of being both a forward pass and a legal pass, or strictly speaking, the waveform describing the pass is indeterminate. This is known as a "Schrodinger pass".

Wayne Barnes has special powers in the detection of this "Schrodinger pass", I assume?

Actually, according to the Kiwis he is incapable of observing any Schrodinger pass at all so all passes are indeterminate to Wayne.

We're over it now... Joubert has apparently proven he cant see an indiscretion by the boys in black a mile off, so all cancels out :)

Many here believe we should adapt the forward momentum rule that is used in rugby league, I have'nt read all the thread so forgive me if someone has allready posted this, Forward momentum is something that the laws of physics cant denigh, yet offten when a ball is passed at speed a forward pass is given, momentum is not favoured here, I've noticed that many flat passes done in the SH that would be called forward here are let go by SH refs.
Again the difference of the Sothern and Northern refs are at issue, whereas a rule allowing forward momentum would benifit the faster flatter pass and not call it into question.
As for the positioning of the hands this may be very difficult for a ref who is trying to keep up with the game to actually see the hands pointing backward.

I posted the IRB's video on page one (you might want to check it out). That interpretation is pretty much universal on a pro level, and probably similar at amateur level as well.

Well it might be universal down there but, here those passes would be deemed forward, that is what I was trying to say, in the Sothern Hemisphere a lot more of these passes seem to be ok, yet the interpritation of most of our refs would deem them forward.
Thus the reason I mentioned the Forward Momentum rule refs need clarification.
