If they're contractually bound to keep him, I'm sure Robbie would make a decent backs coach.

Slim 293 He was involved in 95 and 96, got the head job in 97. That's like saying Steve Hansen has only been All Blacks coach for a year and a half.

The McCabe will always be at 12 under Deans crap died this series. He could have easily started him there but instead picked his best 12 on offer.
2 years of a lot of games and time with the team, sure, but he'd be facing 20 games at most in the leadup to RWC. That just isn't enough!

so won't went wrong in the 4 years before the last RWC for dingo?

The number of years to the RWC is the smallest part of the equation, the biggest part is who the fucking coach is for those years.

Every RWC since professionalism has been won by a team who has been under the same coach since 4 years prior. We have Deans until 2014 basically. That says to the successor "You have 18 games to make your world cup squad." As much as I like McKenzie, I doubt he can make a World Cup winning squad in less than 50 games.
Sure, come end of RWC2015 with no trophy, sack him good. But we committed to the guy for the years after RWC2011. Stick with it.

You didn't go to Auckland in 2011 or tonight did you?

How many games did Link have the Reds for before they won the S14 comp? About as many as the wallabies have Tests before the 2015 final, if not less.

I feel sorry for Robbie. He's tried hard but the lack of results is damning.

On your bike Dingo.

And Spikhaza shouldnt have left early. That was some magic atmosphere at the end even if we were on the wrong side of the scoreline.

I doubt that McCabe will be selected at 12 again either but the point is Deans is devoid of ideas and has more or less conceded that the ABs will always be better than us. He once again failed miserably after going against the grain of popular opinion amongst well performed ex test coaches and went with a rookie 5/8.

It is just time for a change and the EOYT will be too late.

If we change now, we're out of RWC 2015. Maybe even not past the pool stages.

Don't take the pile of crap served up by the players today as an excuse to sack Deans. These same players were on par, occasionally better than this opposition last week. It was the players who floundered around.

Hell, Genia doesn't screw up four times, conceding four tries, and we win by 1. Blame him if you want to put the blame on someone, not the coach.

So true! And then in 2015, after our second Dingo Cup, it'll only be one year until the next Bledisloe! And then it'll only be 3 years to the next RWC!

Deans4evah!

McQueen was appointed later than this in the cycle, as I recall. He was appointed for the EOYT - September 1997 wikipedia says. In what capacity was he involved in the Wallabies immediately prior to that appointment - he had been a selector in 94 and 95?
After last night's game there was a gathering, shown on fox, of Pockock, Deans and KB (Kurtley Beale). The handshake between Deans and Pocock had a look of finality about it but I fear No4918 is right.

In terms of a payout I was under the impression that he's basically at the end of the ridiculously timed JON contract so the payout would be small or non-existent. SMH reports it ends in December.
I've heard he is on $1m so that's $300k odd
Given all that he should offer Pulver his resignation. In that way he takes the focus off himself and places it on Australian rugby.

While I never been a Deans fan, I think at times he has been blamed for everything that is wrong in Aus rugby. I also think after 6 years it time for him to go, he has done all he is going to do, I think he has developed the odd few players that will be of use to Wallabies. Not sure who will or should take over (tend to think White would be good choice), but somehow think it maybe Link , just to shut up the fans that think Wallaby players are so precious that they can only respond to and Aus coach.

I agree, I think there is a role for him somewhere..his coaching results at the Crusaders were somewhat flattering though, he had an awesome team, you or me could have coached them!

Regardless of RD's performance, I am of the belief that the head coach has to be an Aussie..so bring link in and keep RD as an attack coach or something.

Based on selection of Alexander alone, I think it would be appropriate to flick Blades as well. For a former THP to select a guy who isn't, or who is coaching him that badly on technique, is unforgivable.

Deans to be reappointed to oversee a Wallaby "rebuilding phase" aiming for victory at the 2025 Lions tour of Australia. You know it makes sense.

You were one of those! Jesus I paid big money my ticket. And I was there for every minute.

Only KIWIS and POMS leave a game early when they're getting hammered. Aussies are better sports than that.

Too right! I hate early leavers, it's a sign of bad sportsmanship imo.

Except when we won the cup in '99 after Macqueen had the team for a year or so...

THe fact we have only had 5 world cups since rugby went professional also makes the statistic somewhat questionable.... Bring on Ewen!

The nature of that loss was too comprehensive for Deans to survive into next year in my view but it would be a huge call ($) to cut Deans loose now. At best they bring forward the interviews and negotiate some kind of hand over.

We seem to have a blind spot, some nasty kind of malaise where we get over-confident and caught napping, 'she'll be right'. Vigilance, it seems, is not a quality Deans has managed to instill.

enough is enough - I am a reasonable minded individual who has followed the wallabies for 40 years. I want a new coach and I want now :)

6 years is enough Mr. Pulver....put your testicles on the table and release deans.

Thanks mr. deans you tried your best but just like the wallabies last night - not good enough and not up to what i expect from my national team!

Factually incorrect - have a look at when the Macqueen era commenced.

And 50 games. What are you saying a coach needs 5 years to build a RWC side? that is more than two RWC cycles. By that logic Deans' side should be far more competitive now, not producing the same results to type that have characterised his whole tenure. Ie competitive for many games and then totally outclassed and give up a record score.

I was a massive fan of Deans coaching style in S15 and thought his appointment would have been great for Australia but even I now accept he must fall on his sword. Im sure many super rugby clubs would benefit from his talents and I wish him well, but we have to change coaches now.

Slim 293 He was involved in 95 and 96, got the head job in 97. That's like saying Steve Hansen has only been All Blacks coach for a year and a half.

Again factually incorrect - he was a selector in 1992 and in the 1994-1995 seasons. He had no national coaching appointments (apart from coaching the Australia XV the Australia A side in 1995). Sir Clive was appointed in 1998 with a view to a total rebuild so his tenure was understandable.
White was appointed to Bok position at the start of the 2004 season and so had two and a half years to get the Bok ready for the 2007 RWC.

You arguments are based on a poor recollection of the facts.
