CAS Rugby 2025

Fantastic Sir Toad

Frank Row (1)
The school is predominantly Indian and Asian students who are there via academic selection tests. They can hardly get any sport up, let alone a GPS 1st XV standard rugby program. They have hardly won a cricket game for three years. Brisbane State High has 3,500 students, so I'm guessing 1,750 boys, and is non-selective. SBHS is 1200 academic kids, who traditionally do not fit the stereotype of a "rugby player". I'm not picking on SBHS as James Ruse is also not a rugby powerhouse, nor is the new #1 academy school in NSW, North Sydney Boys High. SBHS was actually very competitive before it went selective.
I believe the High First XI beat Newington and Joeys last year. Still, 2 wins out of 14 is hardly impressive.

You seem to be incorrect there mate.
Please correct me and send it through to St Ignatius admin please as they must have it wrongly listed.

Old Cranbrook boy here, can anyone shed some light on the Newington opens this year and how they are shaping up?
Theyre always strong, i know that there outside centre Jarred king played for Under 16s australia and has been a developing talent at randwick, casuing some problems for oppsoing GPS backlines in recent years. Should be a good contest with him and Cranbrooks new Harold matts outside centre.

That knox game will be very good, a good test for knox and an indication mabye into how far they can bring this season. I'll back Joeys by 3. Waverley V Scots should be a good game, Scots need a bounce back from last week although reports of a strong waverley team should allow a good game. But, I reckon the best game this week will be Barker V Shore, the CAS teams so far have beaten shore pretty convincingly although we saw a partial bounce back last week against Knox. A barker team yet to mold as seen in japan agasint a shore team deseprate to prove themselves and bounce back from a poor start, defending there GPS title. I'll back barker by 10.

Mate Horrible Take.
Shore have no strike outwide losing 50-0 to the Blue and Gold.
Best game easily will be Scots Vs Waverley at the regarded 'Death Valley'.

Absolutely agree, mate. The Barker 3rds team is stacked this year—it's basically the entire 2022 16As team, along with a few lads who used to be in the 1sts and 2nds who’ve chosen to prioritise the HSC over rugby; such as Hugh M and Owynn E. Should be a cracking game.

Barker finish off their Sanix with a 43-7 loss to the Fijian school, who in all fairness have looked like a proper side all competition, with a few unlucky losses stopping them from properly progressing. I believe Barker only played a few of the boys who will be playing this weekend in the opening round of CAS, so looked a much weaker side. This result means Barker come 8th out of 16, I know heading into the tournament I personally saw them around the 5th-6th mark so this isn't too surprising. I'm sure some good lessons heading into their CAS season.

NGRugby post is correct. Against the Fiji side, who looked really good, Barker fielded most of their 2nds players to give them a good run. Apparently the 1sts squad is injury free save for some bumps and bruises. Question will be the jet lag coming back having landed on Wednesday and only having 36hrs to prepare for the match against Shore.
