it's utterly stupid that none of the CAS schools can field enough teams to play the majority of GPS schools on a given Saturday, it is unworkable to have a schools 1st XV play in an entirely different comp to their non existent 13c's. It is beyond daft to think that collapsing the traditions of the GPS would solve the so called existential crisis of rugby in Australia, in fact, the GPS system is the only thing keeping it on life support. if you want to know what is damaging rugby in Australia look no further than the CAS and it's current approach to being competitive. The 2 round comp for the GPS is a much better solution than the headache of the the alternative you propose.

Yes trial games and expanding the game to give talent at ISA schools a fair go is what’s destroying the game, because all the criticism of rugby at the moment isn’t a lack of expansion to kids outside of the gps comp…

Grrrrrr what, if you collapsed the AAGPS tradition you would actively reduce the number of kids playing rugby because it would become so much more complex to schedule games.

i would like to see a playoff between the different conferences (preferably including public school teams) at 1st, 2nd and A grade level but that must come after current traditions are

Yes. I have been banging on about this for years. We need a properly structured, tiered competition, not a grouping based on events that occurred 100 years ago because "tradition". Rugby in this country faces existential challenges and the private schools are its strongest nursery. It needs to fix this up, and if the schools can't do it, the decision will be made by someone else. It's utterly stupid GPS protecting its sacred traditions when two of its schools can't even field a 1st XV any more.

Thought he outplayed Durbridge in the GPS v CAS game and has been a bit hard done by in higher selections. Might need a better media manager.

I wonder how many of the current Wallabies went to a Private School and how many of those wouldn't have if they weren't given a scholarship or assistance.

Maybe investing in the club structure would open up a much wider pool of talent !!!!

I think if you were to look into it all the public school players you’d find majority come from Victoria (where club rugby is the main pathway) or outside of Australia. From the rugby championship extended squad earlier this year 35/49 were private school educated

How easy is it to schedule games when all the GPS schools field different numbers of teams? The whole point of the mooted tiering structure is that the first criterion you would apply would be the number of teams fielded each Saturday. So schools who can field, say, 25 teams will play other schools who can play 25 teams and schools that can field 7 teams will play other schools that can field 7 teams. And obviously you'll never get perfect match-ups, but this is a better start than the position that exists at the moment. If, say, Knox and Waverley meet that criterion, then they have more of a place in a top tier than, say, Grammar or High.

Except that Kings 1’s don’t play Grammar 3’s. There is a tier within GPS that already deals with what you describe.
